Pay-Per-View

It appears to still be a major part of DirecTV's service, taking up pretty much all the channels in the 100s.

Not quite...most of Netflix's movie library on their online version contains straight-to-DVD releases and theatrical releases that currently air on Showtime and/or Epix. Besides their original series and specials, Netflix has started to branch into original films as well. They still have their DVD rentals; releases do come out around the same time that come to pay-per-view and stores like Wal-Mart, Target, and Best Buy.

Netflix is more or less like the traditional premium channels, minus a complementary linear live channel...it's a better way to look at it.

K.M. is right in that DirecTV still offers linear pay-per-view channels, but most cable TV providers have done away with that format in recent years, now offering PPV movies exclusively on-demand.

ShawnHill1 is correct - cable TV providers have gone away from offering PPV MOVIES. They still offer wrestling events like TNA, the Wrestlemanias, etc. And they also offer hardcore porn/sex shows on PPV. Has it really been 15-20 years since we had Viewer's Choice PPV?! Obviously, there were others - Request PPV, Cable Video Store, Action PPV, and a bunch of C-Band satellite-only services!

I wonder how well that PPV porn does these days. The price point appears very high, especially considering all the free/cheap online and DVD adult video out there.
