Payton out at Star 94 Soon!

Duncan Payton will be resigning from Star 94.1 at the end of this month due to conflict with co-host Mel McKay over MLK weekend. Apparently Mel McKay's friendship is pretty solid with Duncan after informing him that she was talking with GM Bob Bolinger about the Programmer position and if she would be comfortable with Acting Programm Director.

Re: Payton out at Star 94 Soon! HOLD ON THERE...

Two questions:
1. Where did you get this information, so that we can back this up as more than rumor. Do you work there, or was this in All Access or something?

2. This does not make any sense. You state that Dunkin and Mel have a solid relationship so Dunkin will resign? I could understand if Dunkin were getting promoted or getting a different job at Clear-channel. But just resigning becuase "we are friends?" There are few jobs that I would give up for nothing just because a friend wanted it. No, that does not work for me. There MUST be something further to this?

Anyone know what the truth behind this is?

This board is 90% conjecture and rumor...If every "scoop" reported had to be verified, there wouln't be a whole lot of activity on this board. Agreed?

It might not make any sense that Duncan (that is the correct spelling Garret)
is resigning but a lot of times radio makes no sense...

There is also a possibility that Duncan will head to the morning show at Z-90 as Kid D....

No... You first, please!

In the first place, there has been much explanation by KM and the other moderators about not posting rumors and conjectures, specifically. I've seen many a posts deleted just for that reason. And, I never said that the story was not true, I just asked for some confirmation and explanaition of something that I found strange, that's all, nothing more.

In the second place, I don't care if "a lot of times radio makes no sense..." I asked a question, and there's a reason for everything. A lot of life makes no sense, and I question those things as well. That's why we have meteorologists, financial advisors, etc. They explain stuff that "doesn't make sense." If I'm not allowed to question stuff that "doesn't make sense," what AM I allowed to talk about around here?

And, in the the third place, I spelled "Duncan" as "Duncin" because that is how the original poster spelled it. I tell you, I sure am getting tired of you spelling police out there, complaining about typos and spelling thus throwing many a post off topc. In fact, I'm kinda getting sick of all the crap going on in this board, but I digress.
And by the way, if you are going to correct me of my spelling you might want to get my name spelled right, it's "Garrett," not "Garret"

But hey, thanks for playing, and congradulations for destroying yet another thread by pulling the whole thing off topic! How long will it be before KM has to close this thread down too?

Gerry has made a name for himself on the San Francisco board posting all kinds of conjecture, and has been wrong far more often than he has been right.

Time will tell whether this will be tallied under his "right" or "wrong" column.

(And Gerry, David E. and I still love your convoluted explanation over what it is you do in the ad business. We don't believe it, but we were entertained.)
______________

Wow.... that's hellafuny. What, you guys jus make this up? Geez.

Re: No... You first, please!

Answer is...Duncan is being considered for the newly vacated position at KIOI in San Francisco. How do I know, Mel told me. I've known her since the Morning Zoo day's back in 94 out in Las Vegas. She is better off without him. He is just holding her down from moving up in her career! As it is, Jeff and Jer respect her opinion more than Duncan's and he'd sound so much better in San Francisco anyway!

Is there a meaning in there somewhere? I hope not...

I'm convinced that some people write on this board with one hand on the keyboard and one on the bong.

Good to see you here, Rico. I've always liked your stations.
______________

Re: No... You first, please!

I normally don't pick people's posts apart, but there's a whole little chunk of unbelievable things here that just beg to be examined:

> He is just holding her down from moving up in her career!

Really! I thought he brought her out here with him from Vegas! Seems like a step up to me.

> As it is, Jeff and Jer respect her opinion more than Duncan's

She told you that, right? Right. I don't believe Jeff and Jer respect anybody's opinions except Bob Bollinger and maybe Mark Mays, and him probably not so much.

> and he'd sound so much better in San Francisco anyway!

Why? Would the fog lubricate his vocal cords?

C'mon... my BS detector is at full throttle here.

You thought I was Blowing smoke!

I tell it how it is! Duncan was to be out of his deal by end of January. He decided to take the graceful way out and quit before they fired him. They had thought of sending him to KIOI in SF but no talks had been finalized. So the search continues for the KIOI afternoon drive host.

As for Mel!
Yes, Duncan did hold her down. He took her to San Diego because he didn't really know what he was doing. He needed a co worker who would stand by him till the end. That's why he took Mel with him. She kissed his B-hind while he sucked up the glory (whatever there may have been!). Duncan rode the tails of past programmers and buried some of the great contest they once ran. In Vegas at Mix 94.1, he killed the successful Mix and Match game. he played it out so much that every 3 months for two years, it was on the air for 3 weeks straight. Mix and Match your way to Disneyland, Hawaii, Dave Mathews Band, Mexico, San Diego, your way to the chapel on valentines day and so many more places just over played! The contest ended up losing ratings and he bolted for San Diego right after! Now that he's out, Mel can show that she has the knowledge to take Star to the next level. She will quit afternoons and believe this or not, a former morning duo will make their return to Star no later than...April 1!

I could say I wish Duncan all the best but I don't feel he deserves the respect! He is selfish, heartless and has no respect for anyone! He's a slave driver and belongs outside of any management position! If you don't believe that, then call everyone who ever worked for him. He lost more staff because of his attitude towards people. Unless you kissed his you know what, you got nothing.

I end this off my soap box,
Mel I hope you get the PD gig! You deserve it! you made Star a better station by being the humble understanding person that you are. Stay away from Dumbcan if you want true success. He never intended to let you be the winner. Why do you think it was always you and him? Look at the success of others who never followed him. Old pal Charese, PD of Alice in Denver. Justin Chase, Pd of Mix 94.1! Craig Powers, PD of Jack FM Las Vegas. Jenn Carter, mornings at WXLO Worcester, Mass. The girl power show you had in Vegas on the now Defunct Lite 100.5 was making numbers. Duncan didn't like that you, Lori and Jenn had so much power on the air so he cut you. With the Girl Power show on Lite, the numbers were on the rise and Lite looked better than ever before. It was you who thought of it. your the talent behind many of Duncan's credits! Take charge and do the best. You are the best!

And the fact that he resigned means you can't prove the rest of it, Gerry.
