Payton to exit Riviera for Beasley

Though Duncan Payton has moved up the corporate ladder at Riviera Smooth Jazz and Area 107-9, he's ready to announce his exit and join Beasley Broadcast Group LV as the new OM for KFRH 102.7 Fresh FM KKLZ and KCYE the Coyote.
Larry Martino will assume PD duties at KKLZ, Tom Cella will be PD at KCYE the Coyote and AM KBTE Classic Country will become a local news talk with Nate Tennenbaum as PD and afternoon host.

Good move for Duncan if he really wants to beat Mix, Fresh is his only chance.

Wouldn't Beasley be better off concentrating on one news/talk station? Maybe Tennenbaum should do a local show on KDWN?
Or maybe this is just the first step in 790 turning into a time-brokered hodge podge of shows, sort of like the old KDWN.

Is there any truth to this?

When will this take place?

Duncan Payton couldn't program a VCR... This alone makes Him a Beastly Broadcasting candidate. HOWEVER... Beastly already hired Shawn Lynch as the Program Director for KKLZ and Fresh. I can't see Lynch asnwering to a no talent like Payton.

Amen! His "soft and contemporary approach at Lite didn't do very well...Duncan is a no talent on a station with no signal= a perfect match. He's a person who needs a management course BADLY! You don't build team playing favorites and having a "it's my way or the highway attitude. People don't perform well under those cirumstances. You make them afraid to make a decision or suggestion. You can't build morale or a team that way....Sean Lynch= very good programmer...He gets it! One of the few in this market that does.

Sean Lynch has an extensive CHR background. I first heard of him 25 years ago when he programmed the old KNBQ/Tacoma. Then in the mid 80s he programmed Z100/Portland, they were a new and very hot station, in double digits 12+. KLUCs Chet Buchanan worked there at the time.

Sean Lynch was most recently in Hawaii. He programmed CHR most (if not all?) of his career. So I'm going to speculate that Beasley is going to switch 102.7 from the failed FRESH format to Top 40/Pop. If not it's a waste of his talent and experience.

wow...so many bitter, hateful people who post here. some of you people need to worry about yourself and quit talking crap about others.

didn't your mother's ever teach about not saying anything if you don't have anything NICE to say?

Who's bitter? I'm retired from radio, cruisin in my Lexus and doing fine, thank you. I was merely stating facts because I had the displeasure of working for Duncan at one time. When I was a manager, my team worked WITH me!(so yes I am pointing out the differences.) He can't last anywhere because he alienates so many people. If you are one of the few people that are his so-called "friends" then I feel for you. As a close friend had said to me once...He's(Duncan) is the type with the "selective amnesia" virus. He will forget you soon enough.
I don't use people. I don't have to. If you're my friend, you're my friend for LIFE...not just radio. I am still close friends with some radio people I have been friends with for 30 years! If I am bitter by your standards, thern so be it! I'll take bitter over shallow and fake ANY DAY!

I agree with you Nic. I hold no ill will towards Duncan and honestly wish him the best. But unfortunately for Duncan, he mistreated a lot of people and burned a lot of bridges. When someone does that you'll see a lot of this...

vegasradio, thanks for reminding me of the "soft and contemporary" version of LITE 100.5. Come to think of it, they had a very similar approach/angle that FRESH has today, It didn't work then and it doesn't work now. There just isn't a demand for it.

Hey Nic.. I'm not bitter or hateful... I call it like I see and hear it. Payton is a NO TALENT that should do the industry a favor and get out! Ask Larry Martino at KKLZ how well Payton did for him when Martino hired him as a promotion director in the Inland Empire back in the 80's! Payton should get a hold of Craig Powers in Kingman, maybe the two of them could combine their ~talent~ and then you might have half a brain. No hate, just the facts!
