PBS Kids At 30 Years Old

KKLM

Banned
Today, Thursday July 11, 2024 marks excatly 30 years ago today that PBS officialy launched it's kids programming block first known as PTV Park, and later in 1999 as the current name PBS Kids, however at it's launch it was only seen on 11 PBS Member Stations in 10 media markets at the time, those that took part in the launch were as follows:

WNET 13 Newark, NJ
KCET 28 Los Angeles, CA (Later Eud. IND, Now Secondary PBS Member Station)
WGBH 2 Boston, MA
WETA 26 Washington, D.C.
GPTV/WGTV 8 Athens, GA (Serves Atlanta, Part Of Statewide Network, Now Called GPB)
WPBA 30 Atlanta, GA (Now Called WABE)
KTCA 2 St. Paul, MN (Currently Branded As TPT)
KTLC 43 Oklahoma City, OK (Later UPN, MNTV & IND, Now CW O&O, Branded As The Literacy Channel, Now Currently Known As KAUT)
WGTE 30 Toledo, OH
WSIU 8 Carbondale, IL (Also Aired On WUSI 16 Olney, IL)
KCOS 13 El Paso, TX

I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to post the schedules from those stations fron that day or not? Either way, Here's to 30 Years Of PBS Kids.

True and interestingly I didn't realize PBS Kids as a banner is that old given that sometimes the local PBS affiliate will put their local banner for children's programming on PBS for the same shows just not use the PTV banner. KTEH San Jose was one of those stations that used the PTV Banner for Children's programming from PBS Kids back in the 1990's.
