Maria Hinojosa is doing a strong expose of the illegal immigrant crisis in New Orleans where companies are openly hiring undocumented workers. If you miss it tonight, its available on the pbs.org website (http://pbs.org/now).

Its an amazing presentation of reporting, video, and exploration of how undocumented workers are getting to New Orleans and how they are being openly hired by corporations.

I'm kinda curious as to why they would wait until now, and why go to New Orleans. Companies openly hire illegals here in Phoenix. In fact we build them day labor centers with public funds. And I'll bet that Tucson, El Paso, San Diego, Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas aren't much different.

You would think that NOW would want to cover that if they were really interested in exposing the hiring of illegal immigrants.

I'm sure NOW's focus on New Orleans is to make the report a bit more sensational. Think about it: Hurricane ravages region and do the local workers get the job of rebuilding? No, a bunch of illegals do.

Reads like a typical "sweeps" newscast feature.
______________

What "local workers"? There are no "locals", much less "local workers". All of the locals are somewhere else, either by choice or by evacuation. If you don't have the workforce you need, illegals are more than willing to live in substandard conditions and do the messy work that has to be done.

It's time to stop worrying so much about New Orleans so much, and give some pub to the many other areas wiped off the face of the earth.

Actually, I agree with you, but I was illustrating what I think the producers' viewpoint is likely to be.
______________

What "YOU think." Obviously you're not speaking of fact. Since the makeover of "NOW", I have yet to see anything sensational as to the assumption you are making. Viewers will call them out on it and they know it if they were to go that route./

Excuse me for expressing an opinion. I excuse you for expressing yours, except for the implication by your first two sentences that I am wrong and you are right just because you say so.
______________
