Larry McKay Has Left the Building - 12-17-11
WAOA-FM 107.1 Program Director Larry McKay has left the station.

I listen to them at work, and it sounds like poor Lisa Muldovan is now on the air from 6am to 7pm, since McKay used to also DJ afternoons.

Any idea what's behind this? Did McKay quit to leave radio or take a better job elsewhere? It's not ratings... WA1A bottomed-out in the Spring 2010 book with a 4.8 in 12+, but they've rebounded nicely since then, up to a 6.3 in the Spring 2011 book. It's probably not a budget move either, since WA1A's website has a Now-Hiring page for a new PD to replace McKay, unless they're hoping to pay his replacement less.

...

Oh, and should I apply for the job? :D

This was one of the last "real radio" stations IMO until they were recently bought out. Good luck Larry and thanks for the work!

She can't be on air all that time... VT maybe? Tha'ts one hell of a long stretch for any jock.

Gah, I should've thought of that. Voice-tracking makes way more sense than a 13-hour shift.

Next comes the real question. She's live in the 6A-10A slot only? my guess is probably.
Pretty sad. Lisa from 10a-7PM then billly bush (sindacated), the overnights jockless. Weekends are what?
You'd think CHR would have more of a local presents.

Remember the glory days of the early-to-mid '90s, when WAOA billed themselves as "WA1A." They never seemed to mention the station frequency. They were live and local 24 hours a day and they had great voice-overs. For example, I remember the top-of-the-hour ID containing liners such as, "DJ reading sports section...All Hits, WA1A!" I always used to love the occasional family trip up I-95, just so I was able to listen to WA1A.
