PD Wayne Coy headed to Oakland-SF

Wayne Coy--formerly of The Gavin, WABB, and most recently Q94--is headed back to The Bay Area. The destination station has not been identified; however, 92.7 seems the obvious choice. After all, how many music stations are there in Oakland? My money is on the 92.7-Wayne Coy arrangement.

He will be great for that station, which needs plenty of direction.

Since when has Energy 92.7 been located in Oakland?

Are you from the Bay Area? And where, exactly, are the mighty WABB and Q-94? New York? Philadelphia? Boston? Chicago? Some other major market?

Do I assume correctly that everybody on this board (except me) already knows where these stations are?

Re: 92.7

well, 92.7 party, and power 92.7 were located on harrison st. downtown oakland, and now energy 92.7 I believe has studios/offices in the city by the bay, but the transmitter/license in alameda:)

Operative word here: "were." The station isn't in Oakland any more.

And aside from the city of license (Alameda -- which is also not Oakland), it is a San Francisco station, period. Studios in San Francisco. Transmitter in San Francisco. Target audience in San Francisco.

Right?

No, AllAccess already squashed the Alice rumor for Coy. It has to be 92.7. They WERE in Oakland. I don't know if they still are or not. Truth is being licensed to Alameda they are PRACTICALLY in Oakland, and therefore the reference to being an "Oakland Raiders" fan is fine.

I think many of you read into some of this stuff way too much.

There hasn't been any station in Oakland since the old KDIA moved. Is kids Disney considered music?

He's been in Richmond, VA, which is where NextMedia VP of Prog. Steve Davis happens to live. Could KEZR mornings be possible? San Jose is still in Raiderland....

Although, I'd argue, Sacramento is also...think less about him being PD and more about him doing mornings....

All wrong guesses. He's heading to Las Vegas, not Oakland.

UPDATE! PD Wayne Coy headed to...

Great call, 7393066! From today's Billboard Radio Monitor (Nov. 3):

Q94's Coy Heads To Consolidated Media In Vegas

Wayne Coy, who resigned his position as PD of Clear Channel top 40 WRVQ (Q94) Richmond, last week, will head to Las Vegas to become promotion manager for Consolidated Media. He begins his new duties Nov. 15.
{/snip}

Guess this means KNEW won't be going Top 40 after all.

Too bad! I was looking forward to the resurrection of KEWB "Channel 91." Chuck Blore is still alive and kicking...bring back "Color Radio."

Just for you, for one day only, enjoy the sounds of KEWB Channel 91, Big Bay Radio, from nearly forty years ago:

Whatever happened to Johnny G?

I updated the Johnny G article today with the help of two more former KEWB/KNEW stars, Ron Lyons and Ron Reynolds (both of whom recently retired from KCBS with honors after distinguished careers here), who contributed background on this lost star of Top 40 radio.

Other famous KEWB DJs: Casey Kasem, Chris Borden, Don MacKinnon, Robert W. Morgan, Ted Randal, K.O. Beachin (who became K.O. Bayley at KFRC) and the late, great Bobby Dale.

After the switch to KNEW in 1966, the station picked up Raiders football, and a couple of other legendary broadcasters you might remember:
