Peach 96.5 Gone?

scanning stations in the Macon area and noticed that the 95.9 (Rutland area) and 96.5 are now simulcasting 102.5 the bull. Could they be moving the bull to 95.9 and 96.5 and a new format to 102.5?

Looked at the Macon Clear Channel page and where peach used to be is says "96.5 The Bull"

Now the question is will they move the peach format to 102.5 or is a new format coming to 102.5?

It's anybody's guess at this point. ??? Given that 102.5, as well as WAGH-MAGIC 98.3 (98.3 FM) from the Columbus market, were both placed in CC's Aloha Station Trust, it wouldn't be a surprise to either station end in different hands. Imagine 102.5, for example, going to Georgia Eagle Broadcasting, and "Sunny" (WQSA-99.9 FM) moving there.

I wish SOMEONE would acquire Peach 96.5 and turn it into a Seventies station. I think the simulcast came because of inept programming. I heard a hodgepodge of Seventies, way too much disco and late Seventies A/C, and some Eighties and Nineties. The fruit salad formatting seems to be a trend but going head to head with Cumulus' 93.7 was dopey. I also disliked hearing "Lady Love" by Lou Rawls 3x/day.

Thus it was bye bye Peach.

It's a Sixties radio thing; it's where one station broadcasts programming and another station owned by the same concern broadcasts the same program. The AM's and FM's sharing the same call letters or at least the same owners did it. WABC used to do it as late as 1968.

Clear Channel likely does it to cover areas better; that is, if one station doesn't cover an area and another CC station does in the same market, it simulcasts with just the call letters changed on the jingles.

"sigh" now I'll have to listen to that wimpy Bryan Adams song on 93.7 in order to get to my Seventies. Or (whips out his MP3 player) I've got a better idea :)

Tell ya what, kturnerga... check out Z93.7 this weekend, specifically Saturday and Sunday nights 7p-12mid (and every weekend going forward)

Let me know what you think.

Okie dokie Justin but give us more early Seventies, kill some of the disco, and can the Lou Rawls song, okay? Thank you.
I'll submit a fabulous faves playlist at some point.

102.5 is online as Peach. I heard them tonight and they sound a little better than previous. They mix the Eighties, some Nineties and today, and lots and lots of Seventies to make you see smiley faces when you go to bed at night.

I do as promised have a Silver Dollar Seventies Survey of some songs Peach may have missed. (Drum roll and Dan Ingram voiceover, please)

Close to You-Carpenters
Make it with You- Bread
We've Only Just Begun- Carpenters (so she died of anorexia; that's no reason to blackball her)
Mama Told Me- Three Dog Night
Ride Captain Ride- The Blues Image
Come and Get It- Badfinger
Joy to the World- Three Dog Night
25 or 6 to 4- Chicago

It's Too Late- Carole King
Jesus Christ Superstar- Murray Head (Why doesn't this get airplay; does everyone hate even traces of religion?)
Uncle Albert- Paul McCartney
I Feel the Earth Move- Carole King
My Sweet Lord- George Harrison
It Don't Come Easy- Ringo Starr
Baby I'm A Want You- Bread
American Pie- Don McLean (my sis drew the poster for his appearance at Macon State back in '72)
Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me- Mac Davis (he had his own show on NBC if I remember)
Listen To The Music- Doobie Brothers
Where is the Love- Roberta Flack/Donny Hathaway
You're So Vain- Carly Simon
Give Me Love- George Harrison
Reeling In The Years- Steely Dan
Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting- Elton John
I Honestly Love You- Olivia Newton-John
Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald- Gordon Lightfoot (the guitar section fits the song well)
You Aint' Seen Nothin' Yet- Bachman-Turner Overdrive
The Air That I Breathe- The Hollies
Jazzman- Carole King
Until You Come Back To Me- Aretha Franklin
The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me- Gladys Knight/Pips
Rikki Don't Lost Than Number- Steely Dan
Let Me Be There- Olivia Newton-John
The Lord's Prayer- Sister Janet Mead (again too "churchy" for airplay it seems)
Tubular Bells- Mike Oldfield
Love Will Keep Us Together- The Captain and Tenille
Jive Talkin'- The Bee Gees
Jackie Blue- Ozark Mountain Daredevils
Miracles- Jefferson Starship
The Way I Want To Touch You- The Captain and Tenille
Dream Weaver- Gary Wright
Afternoon Delight-Starland Vocal Band
Theme from SWAT- Rhythm Heritage
Shannon- Henry Gross (big in '76)
Fooled Around and Fell In Love- Elvin Bishop
Evil Woman- Electric Light Orchestra

This isn't the whole list of airplay for a Seventies format but these are some of my favorites and some I remember on my sister's car radio.

Diamond:
Is the 7-12 show still on at 93.7? I've been listening to Peach but I still have to rake out the disco era (and thereafter) material to get to my music. Some shonuff Seventies with plenty of variety is up my alley.

There are two shows on Z93.7 you'll like:

"The Ultimate Party" - Saturday 7p-12midnight: Non-stop party music (uptempo, fun, 60's-80's)
I've heard everything from "The Twist" by Chubby Checker to "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC.

"My 70's Show" - Sunday 7p-12midnight: Just what it says... all 70's (a little more AC'ish, but still a fun show).

Both shows are hosted by my buddy and legendary Top-40 jock Tom Kent (WIBG/Philly, WLS/Chicago, KFJZ/Fort Worth, WHBQ/Memphis, KLIF/Dallas, WAVA/D.C., 96X/Miami, WIXY/Cleveland, etc.)

Trust me, this ain't your mama's Z93.7.

Diamond:
I listened to the Sunday night show on 93.7 and found it enjoyable. You will surely get your demo with TK's Seventies show. And (whispering in Diamond's ear) include a national news feed too. Gosh I can't believe the guys near the airport don't have the first minute of news. I remember when small towners busted *** to put on a feed of Mutual; it's audio was cruddy but at least we knew what happened in the E Pluribus of Unum.

It's tough to mix Seventies with Eighties and everything else to the present day. I'm an old fogie used to clear delineation of formats I'd suppose.

KT-

Thanks for the comments on the 70's show. We actually DO run some a 1 min national news update weekdays during drive time (produced by Metro News), but we don't on the weekends.

It all comes down to corporate radio's determination that "if they want news, we've got a news-talk station they can tune to", so we tend to downplay the national (and even local) aspect of news on the music stations. That's probably okay for the bulk of Z93.7's demo; the upper end of the demo, however, probably could stand a little more news with their music.

Even Big WAYS 1500 (which I also take care of for Cumulus) has a two minute ABC newscast in morning drive. You might check out that station too, if you haven't. We're streaming it at www.waysam.com

We're running Scott Shannon's "True Oldies Channel" format on WAYS, but if you haven't listened to it lately, Scott's been bringing the format forward into much more of a "classic hits" delivery. You'll still hear the occasional "oh-wow" pre-Beatles song, but the bulk of the format is late-60's up through about 1978.
