Peck Exits

Where'd you see this? I don't see in All Access, and don't get Inside Radio - just their free headline email.

It's true-

An inside source at the ghettoplex tells me of a memo that circulated late Wednesday. It said, simply, Peck was no longer associated with Clearchannel and gave him the customary "we wish him well in future endeavors" line.

Not a surprise, considering the damage he's done to B101..and HJJ before he was removed from overseeing that station.

B101's ratings have plummeted in the last year..especially since Peck's idea to cut Cruisin Bruce and Big John loose..and the programming playlist has become a disjointed mess. As for talk-AM, PRO continues to laugh at HJJ..a sad state of affairs, considering how far the talker had come under Bill Hess's guidance a few years back.

Probably one of the better things Jim Corwin has done during his time there (letting him go, not hiring him the first place, that is)

Peck is an impostor, pure and simple. Few people I know who've worked under him (and that's quite alot) have had any meaningfully good things to say about him as a boss.

Will other changes follow ? Is Corwin next..or does he wise up and hire a PD who knows what he's doing ?

As far as the poor decisions made when it comes to B101 wouldn't you place blame on Corwin?Peck always seemed to be an invisible PD when it came to media statements about the Bee firings. It was always Corwin.I'm sure budget cuts were also the reason for those changes.I agree B101 is on the skids with too many music changes to a format that is not working and not even executed well. The staff is pedestrian. As far as Coast they have gotten to sound better under Peck outside of morning drive but part of that is the decision to go with more variety. As far as staffing for both stations all positions have been filled over the last two years with out of work djs.I wonder if this is just the beginning but doubt that it signals any format changes.

say what?

B101's ratings have plummeted? Goodness, they've been consistently top 3 or so 25-54. Most oldies stations would kill to have those kinds of numbers.

You may not like him or may not like his station and that's fine, but please be accurate when quoting ratings information. They have not "plummeted".

Peck hired Depetro,right?
I think he did it right at HJJ.
Don`t forget ,when he left ,thats when HJJ went to the dogs.
Air America,Arlene going off the deep end,etc...

Not being an "insider," I have no access to demographic breakdowns..so I can only go on the 12+ numbers available from the R&R online website. There, over the last 5 ratings books from Summer '04 through (and including) summer '05, the station has dropped from #2 to #7..losing a couple ratings points in the process: which represents a loss of more than 30% overall. (By radio-info rules, of course..I can't quote specific numbers, but they're there for all to see).

#2 to #7 ? Down over 30% ?
I'd call that a plummet (or at least a serious tumble).

I stick by my original assessment.

Respectfully, I have to take issue with your conclusions here.

Even if it was after DePetro's departure that the fall began..you can't blame the guy who's leaving to go to a bigger market. Like him or not, he has every right to try and "move up." Moreover, I'd say it's the PD's job to make sure the station survives and succeeds through whatever airstaff changes come along. The point is even more obvious in your "Arlene going off the deep end" comment. Isn't it a PD's job to keep his on-air talent from dismantling the station's success. If, indeed, Arlene hurt the station by her rants..the responsibility would fall to HJJ's PD to get her back in line for the good of the station.

Remember..it was AFTER HJJ started falling apart that PD responsibilities were taken away from Peck. Clearly..higher management felt it could do better. As to how Bill George has done with the station..that's a discussion for another time.

Yea,I hear you
You made a good point.
Talent, and management of talent ,seems to be
a difficult task around here!!!

Re: say what?

You should go back to school and take Radio 101 because in that class you'll learn that 12+ numbers mean absoultely nothing!

In the demo, B101 has been quite strong lately.

Aaah,

How typical of this board: out come the personal attacks.

Sorry to upset you..and to reference ratings you don't like.

The point remains that what I said in the first place was accurate, based on the ratings to which I have access.

To deny that is to be ignorant.

I'm done-

Ditto. The sales department sells the target demo, and nobody cares about 12+ except us radio geeks. That's why they're the only numbers released to the public.

Everybody knows it's "the demo" and cluster sales is the name of the game but everybody also knows when in doubt you change the demo you're going after to be able to tout good numbers. I think B101 expected a ratings slump overall after all the changes but the fact is you don't continually drop overall and come out strong in "the demo". And why do the stations who say they're always doing well in "the demo" cut budget every 18 months? I'm not talking about the mega salary players who have reached a cap but just generally cut people routinely in spite of all their success?

No,Hess did!!!!!!!!

No,NO, NO!!!
It was BILL HESS who hired Depetro,NOT PECK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fallriveractive, you got that one very wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Peck is a dweib.........

Re: say what?

I certainly wasn't launching a personal attack... mainly because I don't care that much.

However, I was attacking your logic and interpretation of data, which is not correct. The fact that they have dropped in 12+ ratings doesn't matter. If that's all you have access to, that's fine. But don't generalize about the overall performance of the station with the limited information you have.
