Pending CP's

Folks,

We have several CP's pending. Looking to gather some super inexpensive equipment. Right now we just need transmission equipment real cheap or even free as a donation. We are a 501(c)3 non profit. You know the scoop about the tax write-offs. The end of the year is near.

We are anticipating at least 3 CP's in the next couple of months to be granted. We are looking for frequency agile exciters, 500 watt, 1000 watt and up to 5 kw transmitters. If you have something that could help us build please email me with info and pictures at [email protected]

We can pick up. We are in the Cincinnati, Northern KY area.

15. Financial. The applicant certifies that sufficient net liquid assets are on hand or that sufficient funds are available from committed sources to construct and operate the requested facilities for three months without revenue.

Radiofish,

I ask you why is it that there is a smart ellic everywhere you go these days. Jeez. Can't I make a post without this?

Does asking for equipment and being super conservative with your cash mean that you can not operate a station for 3 months with no income. Duh I'm not freekin' stupid.

Please stay on topic or go away.

No he is not. How does looking for equipment have anything to do with having finances to stay on the air with no income for 90 days?

I'll restate my request. If anyone has any used or FREE transmission gear that they would like to sell cheap or donate to a 501(c)3 Corp., please contact me at [email protected].

Thanks

Bill Spry

88.9, Your note makes sense to me. Ignore the negative comments. I will email you with something that may be of interest to you.

Radiofish is right, the rules state that you must have enough funds to operate for 90 days with no income; your request has nothing to do with operating but rather building the stations. It's obvious that you have a budget and are just trying to stay within it since you are willing to buy it as well as accept donations. There's nothing wrong with being frugal.

Because Bill, if you can't afford to purchase even used equipment and have to troll in the radio-info boards for donations, chances are you don't have the money to keep the stations on the air.

Now, consider what I'm about to say a nickle's worth of free advice, asking people for "free" equipment is going to get you nothing but junk that other people don't want and are just trying to unload on you. If you want good, decent, reliable equipment, you are gonna need to pay for it. Otherwise, you are going to wind up with junk that you spend more to keep it on the air compared to what it would cost to have purchased new. I have had pretty good success with ebay. You might consider checking there for anything you need. I also have a working relationship with Steve Scarborough at Bay Country Broadcast Equipment. http://www.baycountry.com/used_equipment.html I have sold him some stuff out of my shop he was looking for, and in turn purchased some stuff from him.

Don't cheap out, if you can't afford to put these stations on the air you should have never filed for the CP.

If you guys would take that "Radio Engineering" arrogance glaze off of your eyes so that you can read my posts perhaps you would "get it". I don't need anyone to explain to me how I should do my business or act on my behalf as my attorney. I am not a beginner. I've been in the biz for 20 years.

I always start off with good used equipment and have never gotten anything that I could not work with. I've built several stations including my own from ground up. What's more, I would not purchase garbage equipment nor would I accept garbage equipment as a donation unless I could use it or repair it.

KYScott - What is it that you didn't understand about my posts and who told you that I could not afford it?

I can afford used and new equipment. I have asked for used equipment to purchase, but someone out there might want to donate it for the tax write-off. Have you not heard that there are many "USED" transmitters out there just sitting around that some of the big boys have and will not use because of HD upgrades? Yes, they "GIVE" it away. I know several who have obtained several units. I have access to wholesale priced new equipment but would rather purchase OR accept DONATED USED!

I have also purchased from Bay Country and others. I certainly will "Cheap Out" if this is the route that I choose. The last one that I built was only $20k. Just because you have the means doesn't mean that you have to spend it! We're talking non-com here.

I never knew that I was so bad at communicating and here I am in the business! A simple post turned into this? I only hope that I have made myself very clear this time.

Just because you have been in the business for 20 dosen't mean you know what you are doing.

Huh, guess I mistook you in here trolling for free equipment.

Who and where have they been giving away free transmitters? Wait, let me correct that, who has been giving away free transmitters that are worth having.

What is very clear is that you are the type of owner that likes to do things as cheap as possible, and someone to avoid.

good god, get over the jealousy. some people like to spend other people's money & that's why they say "buy new" and that's part of the reasons some stations struggle-from being adviced poorly. i've learned from this board who can be trusted when it comes to buying equipment.

sticking to the "topic" never leads to these type of downgrading conversations.

Wow, thx for the link. Pretty impressive. Looks successful ! Go Non-Comm ! Someone must be doing something right! Glad the big dogs do not own all the good ones. VERY cool website! That beats most station websites; they all look & feel the same. ClassX site has character. ;D

Well, any time I see a non-comm which doesn't have a religious bent to it, I'm impressed. As long as you meet the non-comm rules and make a living off it, more power to ya.

Littlejohn

We definately meet the NEC rules but we certainly don't make a living off of it. In the 16 months that we have been on the air we have attracted 25 volunteers. We have a M-F morning drive with Bob Michaels who volunteers everyday, Jack Hill in afternoon drive who also volunteers M-F, Barone who has been in the Cincinnati market for 20 years does mid-days M-S as a volunteer and of course several other air personalities who volunteer. No one gets paid. We hope to change that eventually.

I work about 80 hours per week without pay at the station where I serve as CE, GM, PD, MD, Underwriting Manager, copywriter and you name it! It's been quite a challenge to keep everything going while trying to manage 25 volunteers. Thankfully my wife has a good full time position to supplement our income while we try to build the station's listeners and support.

It's alot of work, but we all love working hard to entertain & serve our community in ways that have long been forgotten. We just do good radio.

I'll give it a listen next time I wander through the Seven Hills country.
n.b. My Granddaddy was Superintendant of Schools in Ft Thomas for some several years. The area is sort of familiar.

To me, streaming is to off air listening as my '65 Dart wagon is to my '72 340 Duster (somewhat modified).... I can get content and format, but not sound quality or 'stationality'.
