Dave Daughtry, that morning show guy on WEBY, used to be a big time local TV news anchor for channel 3 and later channel 10. My how the mighty have fallen... DUI while in possesion of a concealed handgun without a permit... now look where he's wound up.
Bob Solarski picks up a DUI combined with assault on a police officer in the University Mall parking lot and he just has to go to rehab and tell the audience he's sorry.
Gotta wonder what the real stories are on those two.

At least he's doing something good for the community. If we ever lose AAZ, this would make a good contender for Crestview coverage, however, unable to stay on at night would suck.
EBY has a signal in FWB/Destin till about the mall, then it kinda craps out. I need to do a bandscan while at the outlet mall. (or whatever it's called now...) I call it over priced shopping for the few who have the dough. I'm curious just how far Seabreezes stick is from there.
If you look at EBY's (daytime) coverage, I bet their signal can be heard from Mobile to Panama City.

Geez Poledo, Even I guess I could get away with being on TV news there in Pcola, except for my ugly face! I forgot that Dave Daughtry had been a newsman there. When did all those stellar things happen to Dave? He used to be a newsman in Nashville when I was growing up, if I recall correctly. I can only imagine it's not been an easy road for him. Did he really need that much of an ego downsizing? ???

I'm thinking Dave's problems started circa 1990. He was leaving the Elks Lodge (I believe) on Pensacola Beach and got stopped by the Gulf Breeze Police (surprise!). The Popo found a gun wedged between the front seats of his car while trying to apprehend his drunk ass. I don't believe he ever appeared on air for WEAR again. He did less than 1 year at WALA before he dissappeard off the face of the earth. In the late 1990s I first heard him doing news on WEBY, but I never listened to WEBY before then. There was a time when WCOA was the only news radio station anyone knew existed in Pensacola. I know next to nothing about Milton, even though I've lived so close all these years.
Dave's a good talk radio jock. I'm sure there are plenty of jocks out there that have done worse.
It's too bad that he became the "top dog" in NW Florida news and then had to fall so far.
I could add some gossip about Sue Straughn, but her dirty laundry isn't as well known as Dave's and Bob's.

I never understood why be left Nashville for Pensacola. Usually it's a step up market. I am just glad my gin days are behind me, unless CCENG will allow me to crash at his abode...and crash hard. Probably be on my @ss with three gin and tonics...

Thinking about it, the Sue gossip could get me in trouble. It's not really bad compared to the typical shit people around here get into... just money related. That's all I'm willing to say in public.

It's also made me think that it's odd Bob Solaraski, the current main anchor at WEAR, came from Syracuse. Syracuse is a larger market than Pensacola, right? All I can think of is perhaps he was a small fish in a large pond and wanted to be the big fish... unless he needed to get out of town too?
Anything's possible. Heck, I spent a year as a college radio station weed dealer (even sold to the bands playing at the local clubs! Got lots of free swag out of that and I was getting into the shows free since I was with the station). Also spent over a year playing pirate radio with friends. We've all got some skeletons in the old closet. At least I never had to go to jail! ...although I was held at gunpoint by the law once.

Sue always seems kinda bitchy (can I say that on here?) when she's anchoring the news. Like she don't take no s--- from anyone off camera.

The men of WEAR's news and sports have this look of "smarmy used car salesman". Maybe it's the hair. And their audio processing is way too tame. I can't understand half of what they're saying.

The WEAR news crew laughs and giggles too much. Makes me wonder what they have in their coffee cups or what type of wise cracks/dirty jokes they're telling while off camera.
Then there's also Dan Shugart's stash. He's been sporting that baby since the 1980s. One day that thing is going to crawl off his face during his sports report. He proudly wears it like a cop in a 1960s porno.

WEAR is horrible, I don't like them. Shinclare needs to step up and get some real anchors. Channel 8 is another Sinclare station and their news is far better and the morning weather girl is damn hot.
The only reason why we have WEAR is because there the only true station that covers our three counties. The others tend to focus on Mobile, 5, 8 and 10 at least 10 DOES cover our area to a degree. (Cable 8, OTA 15?)
