People, People, People

As I see from the pitiful lack of replies to the latest trend and KQOL's switch to The Party, why even bother to try talking about such trivial things when we could be discussing things like........KDWN!!! Pete Moss!! Tru Hawkins!!

By the way, for you out of towners perusing the board, don't be fooled by the inordinate amount of postings regarding a station (KDWN)the finished 21st 12+ in the latest trend. Whatever influence that station once held has gone the way of the $1.99 buffet and the automat. The only thing that might compel one to listen is for the odd chance that either a host or caller will perish on -air.

This post wouldn't be complete without a gratuitous J.D. Wells mention. You're better than this board deserves.

And for God's sake people, use the spellcheck function.

I hope more people give their thoughts and opinions on The Party. When stations change formats in other markets, it often generates tons of posts. Often times pages of posts. Format changes like this are big news and certainly merit discussion.

As for all the KDWN posts, which I indulge in myself sometimes, I don't think anyone considers them a popular or relevant station. My guess is that KDWN catches so much attention on here because they are so strange sounding. I think a good word would be "deviant". They just do things on 720 that you would never hear on any other 50,000 watt signal. I know it's early and they just took over recently, but so far Beasley has kept the same strange vibe fully intact.

Overall I agree with your post though. I would like to see more discussions of FM stations, you know the ones that people in Las Vegas actually listen to.

Kind of like the Phoenix and Tucson boards with discussions on:

Dancin' Danny Babich on the "Giant 580" (KSAZ Marana).

Sun City AZ's fave toaster talk host Pat McBland on KTAR Phoenix (KT'R to the locals).

A barely-rated rimshot FM (COL Payson, IIRC--the calls escape me) called "Energy."

A snake-oil talk station (KFNX Cave Creek) and a rich parents' toy for their "idiot son"
(description on a recent post) fourth-level talk station (KXAM Mesa).

Yeah it is strange how most of the posts here are about KDWN. I think most of thier audience is posting here. But as far as losing the oldies format here I'm surprised there isn't a big outcry from that audience going on. I heard the oldies will continue on the HD2 but thats not gonna help, because only 3 people will actually hear it. ;D

KQOL has been running a Jack-style format on their HD2. Today, they are playing a pre-produced Christmas special on their HD2. Huh? I don't get it either.

Also, Whoopi will be doing mornings on the new Party.

Maybe there isn't a big outcry because KQOL had been evolving over the past several months. They no longer called themselves "oldies". They had dropped most of the early 60s and added a lot of 70s. They even had a "disco lunch hour". I hear many many songs on PARTY that KOOL was playing.
The oldies purists might have been long gone before this switch took place.

people are interested in people ....that is why media dealing with people does so well....how much is there to say about stations that are automated or syndicated? if a 1970 AMC Gremlin was parked in a parking lot more people would talk about it than an 2005 Nissan Altima....Altima a better car but Gremlin is more interesting...that is why people talk about the people at kdumb....like Pete Moss....throwbacks are interesting...
