I am visiting an old friend this December over Christmas. I've never been to Ft. Lauderdale before (or Florida for that matter). How is the radio around here? Thanks

Where are you coming from? Major market or small town? I guess the best way to describe radio in South Florida is...there is something for everyone. Depending on your format of choice. There are Urban, Country, Psudo Jazz, Talk, A/C, Sports, Spanish, Hip-Hop, Oldies, Classic Rock, Psudo Rock & Psudo Top 40 stations here.

For someone who's never been here, you may think you've struck gold. For those of us who've overstayed our welcome <snikkah>, radio is bland. But you'd know that by reading our boards!

Have fun here, there's more to do that listen to the radio! ;D

Stuart,

I think if you are in a market a long time it starts sounding bland. I feel that way about Charlotte even though we have 3 really good morning shows here which are networked to other markets. So in reality it's not so bad. The other dayparts are kinda dead though!

In '94 I went back to South Florida to work outside of radio and I couldn't believe all the formats and stations there were to choose from compaired to Charlotte on AM and FM. Right now in fact I would give anything for a Majic 102.7 and a Love 94. We don't have either of those formats here anymore.

I just wish they would let the people on air entertain more instead of giving us slogan lines all the time.

I think that's what Stuart was implying. We have a lot of formats here and some are done quite well, but there are few real personalities and few opportunities for them to shine.

I'm coming from Kansas. I work in Kansas City, Missouri but I live in the suburbs in the state of Kansas. I don't travel too often though. Only places I really go to is parts of Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

I'm looking forward to my trip. My wife and I haven't gone on a real vacation in several years! I'm sure Florida will be great!

Thanks for you input.

Of course, just 90 miles away, you have Greensboro, which is dead radio-wise ;D
