Peoria Artist/Title RDS...

Big Oldies 93.3 is now showing the Artist/Title in the radio text field of their RDS. It says: "Now Playing TITLE by ARTIST". 97.3 River Country is also using RDS to display Artist/Title info. River Country's shows the Artist/Title using both the radio text and dynamic program service.

I think it's pretty cool!!

I wish the Quad Cities stations would at least add RDS to their stations. There are 13 stations in Peoria (market #148) with RDS and now 2 that display Artist/Title info. There are 6 stations in the LaSalle/Peru market (#246) that have RDS. However, in the Quad Cities (market #141) there are NO stations with RDS!! I can remember 101.3 KUUL, 103.7 WLLR, and 106.5 KCQQ having RDS, but they have since dropped it. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard for the Quad Cities Clear Channel stations to do Artist/Title considering they already have a "Now Playing" and "Last 10 Songs Played" section on their websites.

If any stations that don't have RDS see this post...I GREATLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO LOOK INTO ADDING IT TO YOUR STATION!!!

Here are some links to encoders:
Audemat-Aztec
Inovonics
Burk
2wcom

If you do decided to add RDS...submit the details to this site when you're done...RDSList.com.

Thanks,

:)

Chris

No one in the non-reserved band in Rockford has it either. Well, there's Life 102.5 (Madison) and Soul 106 (Chicago, repeats 106.3 Lansing, transmitter in Genoa).

Even in the reserved band, WFEN is the only one that uses it.

I agree this is what we need to go up against XM and Sirius. Listeners love this feature. And the cost is around 2k per station but it well worth the expense for the good will you will receive from your listeners.

the costs have come down big time on rds equipment. You should put it in your budget for 2007...it makes sense. lets actually try to compete with satellite radio.

Anyone know the cost of running RDS. What do you need to include song titles on your station? Also putting RDS in your subcarrier does it hurt you signals reach?

On the cheep - you can use this with a 192 sample rate soundcard on XP SP-1 ($20.00 Software encoder)- http://www.heinecke.nl/

For a hardware box static you start at $300 Dynamic boxes run around $2,000

You need a automation system that spits the data out and a program that puts it into a format the rds box likes.

Wont hurt your reach but might hurt your 67K SCA

Is there an interface you need from you automation computer and the RDS system?

With some automation systems, such as Scott SS32, yes, you need an intermediary.
