G Rock Notes:
The Morning G is a good show. Fairly similar vibe to Brian & Jen. Hopefully Brian & Jen will wind up somewhere else - wouldn't be surprised at all to see a station like Radio 104.5 give them a shot.
Pete's Punkyard debuted last night at 10 PM. Even better than Friday Night Frenzy with the addition of all the classic punk acts thrown in the mix - it was good to hear the likes of Dead Kennedys and Minor Threat mixed in with the newer stuff. This was a much needed addition to the station.
A few new adds this past week: Silverchair (very MOR, not surprising at all for G Rock), Mutemath (glad to see them spinning a good newer act fairly quickly) and Marilyn Manson (they should have been on this 6 weeks ago). I hope we see a good deal more, as there are a lot of tired songs that continue to see very heavy airplay. WJSE is on the new singles by The Fratellis, The Shins, and The Killers, while G Rock is still wearing out the same old songs and have been for months now. Come on guys - get your head in the game!
Finally, The Drop. This really should be a segment that airs every weeknight, much like the Late Night Leak on WJSE. If they insist on being so cautious in the new music department, they should at least have this run more than once a week. I don't think anyone will be disappointed if we hear the overplayed Linkin Park, Green Day, Pearl Jam, etc. just a little bit less in order to run this feature five times a week.
