Perennial 710 kHz CH Log Changes Format

WFNR 710, a 10000 Watt DA-D Blacksburg, VA station that blasts a Critical Hours signal into areas that used to be served by WOR before they changed patterns and rebuilt their array, has changed formats. It changed from Talk to 60s 70s Oldies. In addition to the recognizable format, the strong ~50 kW DA equivalent Class B signal suddenly appears at Sunrise and disappears at Sunset, presently without programming fanfare.

January signoff is 5:30 PM EST.

I believe WOR was forced to move because their old transmitter site was claimed by eminent domain for commercial development in the Meadowlands. And then at their new site, due to the "Ratchet Clause" (now no longer in effect) they had to tighten up their directional pattern to bring it closer into compliance with the new FCC protection ratios.

That definitely explains why WOR hasn't been nearly as strong in central Ohio in recent years as it used to be. Some nights, it would put tons of splatter on a very good WLW signal here. I don't miss that at all.
It's still audible around here at night, but at less than half the strength it used to be and now, it's under WLW's slop, which is more appropriate here than the other way around.
