what the 2AM to 5AM slot, or as a Programmer?. Rick Dees is NO Programmer

Re: Rick Dees?

Forget about Cagle, KFRC was great. But that
was 25 years ago. Jay was nothing but a good
political game player. Jocks didn't get along
with him, he was pushed around too easy by
upper management, and made no major talent
acquisitions. I won't blame him for Hollywood,
that had to come from elsewhere.

I'll take 2 to 5, I'm up anyway.

Didn't you love those three-hour shifts?

Sure, but why did Johnny Williams always have 6? Life's unfair!

Johnny Williams, Brother John, outta sight, uptight, all-night satellites ...

Well, he was fantastic, so KHJ wanted him on twice as long.

Loved the all-night guys ... a great audience too.

Some would put great in quotes though :)

Never heard Brother John though. What was he like? Any airchecks around of him?

Pastor Brother John Rydgren

Brother John Rydgren was a market legend in L.A.! I remember listening to a Christian Top 40 Countdown show as a kid called Powerline with Brother John, not the same Brother John. In 1986-88 KRTH AM 930 used Brother John voice tracks 20 Hours a day, and Dave Hull did Mornings at Smokin' Oldies©. Plus KRTH FM played his weekend spiritual show "Heaven is in your mind". It was some years earlier that Brother John suffered a serious stroke on the air during that program, they found him just making noises. He never was the same, but he did get his voice back!

By the way Batman, I had Hours of Brother John airchecks from AM 930. Do a Google search on Brother John Rydgren, and you will find some of his really far out religious work on Mp3. Mind expanding, bring out the Bat Bong. There has to be more from his ABC "Love Network", WPLJ, KABC, KRTH & KRLA days too! (He worked some great Gigs)

I LOVED Brother John! Never met him personally, but Phil Hall told me he was the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. I really miss him on the air.

I sent my resume to Phil Wall, not Hall, & he called!

I only met Brother John once at a staff meeting Doc. It was like a higher presence was in the room!

That's funny!

Miami, you heard from Phil lately? Since he went back to Dallas, I can't get through to him for love nor money!

No it's almost 20 Years ago since Phil Hall hired me, nice guy though. Speaking about Hall, I get the call of a lifetime to meet with David Hall at KFI about a 'possible' opening. Rush down there, met Stella and then David. He rises to shake my hand, trips on his desk and fell down. I was never asked back!
