Perry going to flip its Alternative station to Country?

from NEWSOK.com it says one station of Perry's will flip to country. Look under the Biz section.

Even though newsok.com is an Oklahoma news website, they could be referring to Perry's newly aquired Augusta properties simply because the comapny is based in Oklahoma. Given that I doubt they would switch to country in Augusta though. There are two country stations, actually three counting WTHO in Thomson, in the market already.

If Perry does take alternative off 92.3 I doubt they would flip to country. If I had to guess, I'd say some form of urban. Maybe a 60s/70s era urban oldies? Is anyone doing that on FM in Augusta?

What they need to do is flip to something unique there is enough country stations on the dial.We need beautiful music on at least 1 station. There is no variety on FM anymore.

The Alternative's a good format on 92.3, but that station is so weak, you can't hear it unless you're within a block of the transmitter. As for the classic urban format, there are two stations with Kiss 96.3 and "The Touch" 96.9 (or whatever they're calling themselves now) with the latter being owned by the Perry cluster in the Radio One sale. 92.3 used to be jazz. There's not a jazz station in Augusta. But, you still have the low power problem, plus if memory serves me correctly, that tower's in a valley, which makes coverage much worse.

Yes, returning to jazz would be an option since it's not being done. I was referring to true urban oldies like 60's r&b, Motown and early 70's funk. Kiss 96.3 and Touch 96.9 or more adult urban contemporary.

Yeah, but again they'd be hurt by the weak signal. When I worked for WAAW when James Brown owned it, they tried that format (Funk, 60's R&B, it was imaged "Augusta's Soul Classics"), with no playlist. The jocks chose whatever they wanted to play, whenever they wanted to play it, and did a great job, too. Problem was, the stick is WAY out in Williston, with very little power, so it barely made it into downtown. WAEG's in a little bit of a better place, but it skips over key demos to make that format work.

Now that I think of it, when it was jazz, people liked it, but complained that the signal was too "iffy". They really need to move the x-mitter to a new location to get a better signal. I've always said that hill near Glenn Hills HS behind Wal-Mart on Deans Bridge is the prime location, but I'm not an engineer, so what do I know?
