Perry Mason On MeTV

The late-night (11:30/10:30) episodes of Mason are currently in 1960.

I've noticed recently they seem to have "16mm credits"--that is, the video
looks as if it's from a 16mm print of the episode, while the audio still "sounds"
like 35mm. And the very last set of credits gets frozen just before the fade.

Just wondering why the hybrid. Could the original credits have turned out
"unusable" at the time the syndication masters were recorded?

If you mean "unusable" in the sense that the original 35mm prints had sponsor billboards on one of the corners during the end credits, well, that could be the case . . . if anyone saw on YouTube original Andy Griffith Show credits, for example, they would've seen billboards on the bottom right corner of the screen for various Post cereals, with the background over which the credits were shown consisting of Andy and Opie within the same area as during the opening titles; the plain background with a painting of an outdoor area on the lower right was for syndication prints.

Tonight's (Friday 09/14 11:30/10:30) episode went back to "normal"-looking credits.
It was the episode next up in the original order from February 1960.

It had the three law books in the background, behind the titles. The recent span of
what I'm calling "16mm" credits were over a blank background. So I'm not sure if
a sponsor's logo would have factored in, and I don't recall a product logo appearing
in the original Mason credits.

Antenna TV's "Burns & Allen" episodes do that as well....horrible end-credit prints, despite clean episodes otherwise. I have, however, seen BF Goodrich & Betty Crocker spots during closing on B&A.

I saw an episode of "The Mothers-in-Law" on MeTV complete with Crest Toothpaste showing in bottom left of closing credits.

Also saw "Dobie Gillis" with sponsor during credits.

BTW when Mason was on local ch 39 here in the 80s, I did see one ep with Colgate shown.

Yes indeedy! But at least that was airing from the original 35mm print.

A few final-season Twilight Zones as well on MeTV - one even had a Pall Mall cigarette pack shown!

I have the #1-1 release of Mason, and on some outings, there are sponsor logos and product logos.

I remember when Nick at Nite/TV Land or some other cable channel ran either "The Lucy Show" or "Here's Lucy," they covered up the product in the closing credits with a Chyron oval with "LBP Inc." on it (Lucille Ball Productions).

The "Perry Mason" closing credits in season 1 had three volumes of Corpus Juris ("Body of Law" - light covers) in the background, replaced in season 2 and thereafter by three volumes of Corpus Juris Secundum ("Second Body of Law" -dark covers).
I think it was in the 3rd or 4th season that the closing credits were split so a commercial or promo could run within them; first giving the names of the director and writer(s), then a break, then "Perry Mason" in quotes, followed by the remainder of the credits.
