Personalities on Top 40 Radio

With all of the recent changes in radio, do you think that personalities can carry this format? Is "weeding-out" personalities on top 40 radio a good thing and/or the right thing? Peronsally, I think that when someone tunes into radio, they expect to hear a personality. If they want all music, the pop-in CDs or I-Pods now in the car. I'm under the impression that Top 40 Radio was and is built around entertaining jocks and hit music.

today it seems like it is either personalities like bob and tom , mancow, howard stern (I am not talking content.I am talking philibuster) or card readers who play music.there are exceptions but it is an exception.

I would like to see, and I believe many others also would, more dj`s playing music with the chance to shine like larry lujack and others from the past.

I agree that Top 40 is entertainment (jocks) and music. But I also think user expectations have changed since 1989. I think current corporate is wrong and old-school is wrong. Research won't show it but I think someone NEEDS to blaze a new path... or Top 40 radio might be doomed.

Give it two years. In the next two years, companies that are cutting so far back on personality radio will likely find that their signals will have next to nothing that makes them different from MP3 players and will have lost a great deal of audience because of that. By the beginning of 2010, I expect to see personality radio return on Top 40. The two years between now and then are going to be lackluster to disappointing, at best, but it will survive.

Like all things, Indebiz.....it(in this case..personality radio) goes in trends.
