Pet Peeves

1. Weather promos with specific information (i.e. an aircheck of a news person saying "TORNADO WARNING IN EFFECT!!!" as if there is one, when there currently isn't), and similarly traffic promos with specific location information.2. Promos for contests which are activated with a sounder that include the sounder running while the contest is actively being played. (I understand running them with the sounder the week BEFORE the contest starts, but then cut a generic one that describes the sounder "when you hear the sound of the goat bleating, be caller 10").3. Lying to people. Pimping the request lines, when you know that "any deviation from the pre-selected playlist on the computer may be grounds for dismissal").

regarding peeve #3, my contract never had "any deviation from the pre-selected playlist on the computer may be grounds for dismissal"actually, when i throw out the request line, i specify if i am looking for songs or if i want to make fun of someone. And, ...heres the part you will love... I actually can take songs out of the specific play list and throw in a replacement if i think the one about to play sucks, which makes actual requests possible. im not a PD, and yes we are owned by a corporation. but, not to worry... my boss knows all about it.all you guys talk about the good ole days of radio... im really enjoying mine.have a good one.hugs and kisses.

Pet Peeve: Jock's who are "clairvoyant" during request shows. It drives me nuts when the jock will start playing a song and then play a phone call over the intro where a listener requests the song he is already playing. Let the listener request the song...THEN start playing it.

Semi-dumb question from someone whose professional affiliation is in TV:When people make requests, how often is the request within the playlist? I mean, how often is the song requested something the station is currently playing, and how often is it something that would never see air on your station?

Back when I was on the air, you'd be surprised how often the song requested was not only currently being played by the station, it was currently being played by the station RIGHT THEN...If you can imagine dumb requests, they've been requested.

Good grief, if those are your three biggest pet peeves about radio, you ain't been in the business long!! ;)
