Pete and Justin relegated to hurricane duty

Delkus is not alone this time~~other WFAA newbie Justin Farmer has been cast to the hurricane this go-around, and Brad Watson as well for, hmmm, maybe to rescue the pair from Hooters at closing time? (Too many 'Rita's?) And Alexa sure looks kewpie-ish next to Diana Hyland--I mean, Jackie Hyland, at the noon news desk.

And, in another news flash, the Dallas Morning News has finally acknowledged Pete as the 4th weatherman now in their 'quick look' vertically-challenged section of the newspaper! Pix of all 4 are now included in the weather blurb at the top-- er, side. (Delkus seems to appear courtesy of Photoshop.) Speaking of, we've all had time to 'soak in' Delkus now, and I just can't see him replacing Troy. He's just not affable and folksy enough, and you can tell he never will be. Perhaps the old school weathercaster (ala Harold, Troy, Howard McNeil, Warren Culbertson) is just a thing of the past. Even weathernerds are in short supply (Finfrock, Chesner, Heller, etc).

Delkus is "stiff" and "dramatic". He's okay otherwise, but Steve MCcauley is still the best one to replace Troy, and it will just be stupid if that doesn't happen.

Maybe our prayers will be answered and pete will be swept out to sea in a freak surge

Maybe those are Troy's and Micheal Rey's prayers;)

Maybe thats why Troy was wearing his lapel cross the other night ;)

I don't see either one of them being near that rude.

Pete is not living up to the hype, but I am not sure anyone could. Steve would be good, but my sense is he is not very competitive, so Pete would eat him for lunch.

Now that Justin and Jackie are setling into their chairs, why exactly is Alexa still co-anchoring Noon?

That and has been wearing a necklace off garlic of camera:).
"Morticia" should just be given celebrities that have died reports.

Re: "relegated to hurricane duty" from Jody

Pete and Justin may well have vounteered for Rita coverage, or may have been asked by WFAA to go in order to establish local credibility for two newcomers. Short of a war or major political campaign, few things can do that as quickly as reporting well from landfall - given the danger, and especially since the weather is the one thing that affects everyone. Plus, this is a Texas-specific national story...and you don't "relegate" to that. You send good people, or at least should.

I covered Claudette, and the eye arrived on top of us just as my shooter and I were driving across the Port Lavaca Causeway. It was the most scared I've even been...but it earned stripes in our shop.

Honestly, I envy these folks...sortof.

Re: "relegated to hurricane duty" from Jody

Good points, Jody. My first thought was that "newbies" are considered more expendable if, God forbid, something happened.

I don't think we've opened this for discussion yet...are you still swinging both gigs? How do you do it and get rest in between???

And belated congrats on a segue "well done" when Ron stepped down. Just pulled out the tape a few weeks back to listen to the whole farewell show. Very nice work.

Re: "relegated to hurricane duty" from Jody

That's funny. Maybe that's why I was sent to Claudette!

Radio, fulltime...reporting for TV when I feel like it, and the stories I choose. Learning to operate a camera, so I can do it a'la John Pronk. "On The Road With...". Hey, always keep the day job.

And thanks for the kind words. Mark Oristano captured Ron's last second on the air in a great b/w photo, which now hangs on my (his) office wall. It was quite a moment. I can also tell you he's having fun...and bored silly. I know this because he's answering my emails, and he never does that unless he's bored silly.

Doing a weekend golden oldies show for Mel by spring of next year. He'll deny any such thought, of course...but I'll take the under.
