I remember mornings with Pete & Geets, on CFNY, during my college days in the early '80's (CFNY in general, was a fantastic station back then).
Oddly enough, years later, I was surprised to hear him...pushing the wrong buttons, figuratively and otherwise...on a semi-local, quasi-country station (known as CHEQ Q101, at the time) in Smiths Falls ON. When that station tried to bring the 'easy listening' format back to the Ottawa area (including using the dearly departed CFMO call letters), Pete hosted a Saturday morning program called "All Around The House".
When ever I heard Pete on that Smiths Falls station, there was a touch of melancholy for me, as this once cutting edge morning man fumbled his way through the air waves of a small town station, with undoubtedly very few of his listeners knowing who he used to be. Pete died in that small town of Smiths Falls, a place where I own property and visit on a regular basis. It's unfortunate that I never got to bump into Pete, somewhere along those streets, as he was one of my radio heroes, from the days of a once great station, 102.1 CFNY "The Spirit of Radio".
