Peter Blute out at WCRN

According to an update in the Worcester T&G, it will be called the WCRN Morning News with Hank Stolz.

I hope that it morphs into the WCRN Morning News with Hank & Sherman (Whitman). If they did this and actually promoted the show, I believe they could finally become a player in the Worcester market.

Here is the link but it does have a paywall. However if you sign up, you can get up to 10 articles/month for free.

I'll have to start listening to Jim Polito. I can't take the hockey talk on Dennis and Callahan much longer. If the Bruins win tonight there'll be two more weeks of it. Thanks for the clue-in.

I've been listening to Jim Polito for the last couple of days. I'm still waiting for a right wing rant. Unless of course the fact that he thinks illegal aliens shouldn't be supported by the state or he's not a big fan of unions or that Obama plays golf a little too much qualify as right wing rants. I suppose criticizing Obama and Coupe Deval does make him a racist.

On "progressive" radio they would never criticize anyone. That only happens on right wing hate radio stations.

It looks like I may get my wish about Sherman Whitman going to WCRN. :)

This week’s Worcester Magazine in the Worcesteria column (scroll down to the last item), are reporting on the rumor that Sherman Whitman may indeed be rejoining Hank Stolz on the new WCRN Morning News.

Apparently he has a non-compete clause that runs out in July. How could Clear Channel lay him off from WTAG to outsource their news department to their Albany, NY hub and then prevent him from working with a non-compete? ???

if he is cashing a check from them, they can prevent him from being somewhere else.
Much like O&A, they were sent to the beach, paid until the end of their contract, then were free to go to greener pastures.

Non-compete agreements are illegal and hence 'void and unenforceable' in the Commonwealth.

Carr, BTW, got caught by granting a "right of first refusal" to his employer which. despite his efforts to be the Curt Flood of broadcasting, bound him to re-up.

Howie has said he has an uncensored version of that pic, in his office. Bluto's companion on the trip was Swampscott GOP figure Sandy Tennant (who had some embarrassing incidents involving booze and sought treatment). I remember Howie would have Peter on his show as a guest and at one point Peter filled in for him, the ever-popular "tryout"; I think he sounded a bit unready for the air at the
time (he was on solo) but I guess he improved and did wind up co-hosting the RKO morning gig.

One of Blute's RKO co-hosts was Andy Moes, who died suddenly at the age of 50. I remember going into a Brookline cable TV studio to do an interview on one of their shows and it was all over the web and the air that morning, the sudden death of Andy. He would also be paired with John "Ozone" Osterlind, who these days is afternoon host at Rush Radio in New Orleans (and I listened to him when I was down
there last summer). Another co-host was Scott Allen Miller, aka Scotto who later went to Albany.

Ozone recalls his past, in this page on the WRNO/Rush Radio site:
http://www.wrno.com/pages/johnosterlind.html

>>(WAAF, then) Then I went "down the hall" to 'AAF sister station, News-Talk WRKO to host a talk show for a few years. I took a break from radio for a few years to open a bar, and help smuggle Cubans into Miami. Three years ago, I ran into the WRNO brass outside Larry Flynts' Barely Legal Club on Bourbon St., where they offered me this job.

Yes he did and maybe still does. In fact, it was hung so everyone walking down the main hallway, including Blute, could look at it every day (Howie's office was right across from the studio.) Howie was, as ever, a class act.

One day, Blute's wife, who was what they used to call long ago "stacked" came down the hallway, and stopped to check out the photo. She 'harrump'd' and said to no one in particular "You call that a set of ***s ?"

Regards,
TSB

Ha, that's HC for ya! He autographed my copy of Hitman tonite in Peabody. Great guy, third time I've met him. Good story about Mrs. Bluto too :)
Howie has also said he had a pic in his office of Mike Dukakis in the tank. Caption: TANKS FOR
NOTHING.
