One word describes him : "Journalist". He is one who will be missed. He reported facts not opinion, and what he didn't know he did his own research to find out. He knew he wasn't a network anchor in 1966, he wanted to learn more about his trade. He reported from many places around the world and learned many cultures. Finally he was ready to anchor and in the 80's ABC agreed. The last few years alone he had the #1 evening newscast. He reported the news good or bad, whether he agree or disagree,he was a reporter first, and he had the facts ,not opinions diguised as facts. Peter Jennings will be missed, and journalism just got weaker.

Agreed, totally. We won't see the likes of Jennings again.
 
He was a class act. He will be sorely missed.

I didn't get to hear the news last night:

Longtime ABC News anchor Peter Jennings has died of lung cancer. He was 67. "Good Morning America" co-host Charles Gibson made the announcement Sunday saying Jennings passed away in his New York City apartment surrounded by family. "For four decades, he has been our colleague, our friend, and our leader in so many ways. None of us will be the same without him," said network President Dave Westin in a statement to its staff.

I met him when he came to dallas to do a post 9/11 dicussion down at WFAA (The same one that loud mouth mark davis chewed him out at.) He was a total class act and very down to earth. Jennings was one of the last real independent journalist in this business, one without an agenda who kept his political leanings off the air and did his job, reporting the news. We'll miss ya peter!
