Peter Yarrow of Peter Paul and Mary, dead at 86

No need to mention how much Peter, Paul & Mary influenced music.

One of my favorites. He has performed this both as a solo artist and part of Peter, Paul and Mary.

There are so many of their hits as well...

I'm saddened to read this news. I've been a fan of PP&M for decades, saw them perform in NYC so long ago I can't remember where anymore, but also at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga (a suburb of San Jose) in the early part of this century. One of the services that Yarrow, Stookey & Travers did for folk music was to apply a veneer of polish, with their arrangements and harmonies, to great songs written by artists who otherwise lacked the performance skills to get their music in front of mainstream audiences. How many young people in the Sixties discovered Pete Seeger because of PP&M's arrangement and recording of Where Have All The Flowers Gone? Or early Dylan (Don't Think Twice, It's All Right or Blowin' In The Wind)? Or Gordon Lightfoot (Early Mornin' Rain, For Lovin' Me)? Or Tom Paxton (The Last Thing On My Mind)? Or early songs from John Denver, Laura Nyro, Fred Neil, Tim Hardin? PP&M didn't always get the respect they deserved because they were such polished performers. RIP, Peter Yarrow, may your memory be for a blessing and your music be your legacy.
