Petition For MLB To Drop Keith Olbermann

This week, a website has sprung up, with a link to a petition to Major League Baseball, encouraging them to "respect the great game" and relieve Keith Olbermann of his blogging duties for MLB.com. This, as he hosts the politically-themed cable news show "Countdown" on MSNBC, in which he almost always mocks and attacks people on the right.

Also, columnist S.E. Cupp writes about the double standard of how Olbermann continues to blog for the MLB, while Rush Limbaugh "couldn't even buy his way into the NFL":

OK, the McNabb thing was in the eye of the beholder (as to whether it was racist or whether it just pointed out the race issue). But, since there are so many, please name for me two more "racist" attacks by Rush on the NFL. Thanks.

How about MLB's long "whites only" policy which lasted from 1899 with Cap Anson's Cubs refusing to take the field if Moses Fleetwood Walker was allowed to play, through Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis continued segregation policy which stood in place until 1947?

As bad a Commissioner as Bud Selig is, his policies (small business outreaches, retirement of Jackie Robinson's number throughout all of MLB, his encouragement of teams to hire minority executives, coaches and managers, etc.) is a good effort at trying to rid MLB of it's racist past.

MLB was a mirror reflection of the racist attitudes of the USA's general population. It wasn't right but it wasn't unique.

MLB and the U.S. military ended segregation almost a full 20 years before Texas high schools did. Didn't know we were going in this direction, just sayin'.

Don't hold your breath, BRN.

And that was before the Southeastern Conference desegregated.

But then, so-called "educators" are always among the last to learn anything.

My semi-educated guess is that desegregation in the SEC had more to do with well-heeled donors than the employees of the universities themselves. Educators tend to be progressive in nature. Alumni, not so much.

No surprises here, but I watch Countdown everynight. I have never heard Keith do politics on a sports show,

As much as I detest Keith Olbermann, I did not think it was right when ESPN canned
Rush Limbaugh because some people did not like his politics, and think it would be wrong
to get Olbermann canned from a sports job for the same reason (though I'm certain he
stood up and cheered when ESPN dumped Rush)

(and before the Racism charges start flying....looks like the Eagles management and
many people in Philly have come to agree with Rush about Donovan McNabb)
