Petitions: Boston's Progressive Talk vs. Depetro Petition

John DePetro's petition is stalled at 833 after two months of being available on http://www.depetro.com

http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?hv3apbt&1

there are a LOT of questionable and "pending" autographs.

Some questions:

1)Has this petition accomplished anything for DePetro, or backfired?

2)Look at the passion, or lack thereof, in the signatures.

BOSTON'S PROGRESSIVE TALK petition started yesterday, first signature at 11:45 if the time signature is
correct. It is now 11:11 AM on Sunday Morning, 12/31/06

http://bostonprogressivetalk.net/boston_progress.php

There are 59 names, zip codes, and they all feel very real.

Our friend Raccoon Radio loves Conservative Talk, and that is his right. He also has been quick to paint
BPT as a failure when we all know it got ZERO support from Clear Channel. I am very impressed with the activity in the Yahoogroup - and the civility.

It would be really nice to see this on the FM band - 50,000 watts of Progressive Talk. WKKK could become
WLIB for Liberal, Liberate and Liberty!

Anyway - note the passion in the BPT petition and the lackluster signings of DePetro's petition.

I will now go a step further: Raccoon - I truly believe in this Blue State that Progressive Talk can save RKO.

Highly unlikely that it could hurt.

Would appear that PT might have the power to "save" RKO.
It might also have the power to drive a stake through its' heart.

Either way, no serious risk to the broadcast industry in Boston.

They oughta try; WHJJ did down in Providence.....

Anyone notice how it was nice and civil on Bostonsprogressivetalk.net till that was mentioned on this board.

Conservatives should be ashamed of themselves - look at the mess that is now appearing on the Poll.
Wouldn't be surprised if it was John DePetro doing the trolling:

73 12/31/06 12:48:39 Saddam Hussein 91206 Hey you idiots..the free market works and Liberal ideas fail. that is why you ran \"pretend conservatives\" in Nov. You have to pretend to be Republicans to win and no one likes your ideas. that is why Err Amerika failed.

Now i goota go..my virgins are calling me. Oh BTW you are all yellow traitors" 70.162.188.75
76 12/31/06 12:56:40 Nick Berg 91206 (horrble slur at how Nick Berg Died by some "Compassionate Conservative)! Al Qaeda is really our friend
77 12/31/06 01:04:23 Ted Kennedy 9120 (Typical COMPASSSIONATE CONSERVATIVE attack on Ted Kennedy not worthy of re-printing) .I\'m right on the issues aren\'t I?

DePetro going to WHJJ is the rumor

If they put good prog. talk hosts on maybe it would work. But FRANKEN-ly, Stuart Smalley's show (if he
ever returns, no he may never return and his fate is still unlearned) would bomb on a 50k as quickly
as a much weaker station.

Who has the time to comb though all 800+ signatures on an online petition looking for excuses to slam Depetro on here? ???

>> WE URGE Clear Channel Radio to reinstate Progressive Talk Radio in Boston!

What, and take off this music
serving the Hispanic community?
Whatever happened to diversity
and multi-culturalism!
Hate crime! Hate crime! :)

Liberal talk at 96.9 for three hours if the Herald article means anything: Eagan and Braude 12-3 pm,
with local programming countering Rush on 'RKO. It ain't Air America/Jones stuff but there's at least
some more libtalk for some on this board.

DePetro now says on his site that the petition will be taken off in a few days (he thanks the man who started it and says it got 800 signatures). He says he'll have "big news" soon, no doubt a job at WHJJ if the rumors
are true. So "WRKO, please bring back DePetro!" is a moot point....

Which will be back on air sooner, DePetro or prog talk? Actually he already has been (WABeatleC).
Though the aim of the petition was to get him back on 'RKO which won't happen. The PT petition
is to get it back on 1200/1430 Boston; the only poss. might be 1430 after 1200's power boost. By then
it'll be hot fun in the summertime.

btw the petition drive in Columbus Ohio has over 2,000 signatures, though Ohio Media Watch says that acc.
to the prog. dir. of WTVN/WTPG (the latter is the one that's dropping progtalk), "(progtalk has...) Not enough listeners, not enough revenue". One would think maybe the PD could be convinced to at least air one or two PT shows
on either station, though.
and for what it's worth in case anyone wants to pick them up, I notice the domain names airamericaboston.net
and .org are both available (the .com is owned by CC; runs out next Dec.)

The Columbus board also says that CC has refused to accept paid ads from the org that's trying to save
prog. radio in that city; one would think if the Boston org went to CC to try and air ads on Kiss 108, etc.,
they might meet a similar fate.

Raccoon - the fact that we actually have Public Participation on this is key. I was hoping people would've worked to keep it on the air the minute it WENT on the air. Remember when you were jumping all over the fact that it wouldn't work? That "fact" was obvious because Clear Channell didn't give it the promotion or the power that WTKK gave their upstart station. Jay Severin would NEVER have made it if he was stuck on AM 1430.
It is easier to jump off a big platform. Which is why the failure of Jeff Katz, Scott Allen Miller, John DePetro,
Todd Feinburg is so obvious: they can't catch on even WITH a platform.

In any event, I am so pleased by the public participation regarding Boston's Progressive Talk. Wish it happened sooner, but better late than never. We need a 50,000 watter FM anyway...
