Petros

After high recommendations from folks on this board, I have recently had time to listen to Petros' show (1-3) my time, and I do have to say, I find it enjoyable and amusing. Sometimes I wish Petros would not sing as much and stop his obsession with Matt Leinart, but other than that, it is pretty good. I love how he rips his co-workers like Fred Roggin and former co-workers like Roger Lodge. My problems understanding the show are because I'm from Albuquerque and new listening to the show. Can somebody help me out with a couple of questions about Petros ?? Today he said that he would rather carve something in his leg than work with Mark Willard again. Did he and Willard used to have a show in the past, that would have been solid to listen to. Also, he was ripping Bruno and Willard because they "stole" material from his show, pretty funny stuff. I have heard him on Bruno before and they seemed like they got along with each other. Petros' did do a good job when he filled in for Brando on SNR, and I wish that he would have decided to take the SNR job, but it looks like he'll be doing three hours (Roggin appears to be gone), so I guess it'll be alright for him. Just wondering if somebody could give me a rundown of Petros' history.

I spent some time in L.A. a few years ago.. I do think he's one of the better guys out there... I did like the Cannon's show a little better, it was cool b/c i could flip between them for 2 hours.

He kinda reminds me of a Scott Ferrall mixed w/ John Renshaw...w/ all the energy, singing etc...

He's good, but overall I think the L.A. market is pretty WEAK for Sports Talk.

I stumbled upon Petros' show after I discovered Bruno was doing a local show for 1540 before SNR launched him nationally. As much as I love Bruno's show, I am now a bigger fan of Petros. His board op, Cornelius "Corndog" Edwards, is the best in the business as well. Here are some links that will give you some background on Petros.

From what I can tell, he and Bruno get along pretty well, but I think he genuinely does not like Willard. And he definitely does not like Roger Lodge. Willard and Lodge used to do a show together on 1540, and Petros has been paired with Willard over the past couple of years as well before Bruno came on board. As for Leinart, he used to come on Petros' show, but he lied about a lot of things (hence, you'll often hear Leinart's voice saying, "I would not lie to you, Petros" when his name comes up), and now Leinart is boycotting the show after the P called him out on his lies and also disclosed that Rudy Carpenter used to date Brynn Cameron (Matt's ex-girlfriend) in high school. Hope this helps...if you have any other questions, fire away. As you can tell, I'm not ashamed to be the P's biggest cheerleader here at this forum....and unlike realdeal9, and I'm not a paid shill.

Humor is as subjective as beauty, but let me try to explain why I enjoy Petros. For starters, the guy's humor is contagious. I don't know the history of his 'do you think you're better than me?' bit (feel free to enlighten me), but Petros likes to bring this up to guests and/or callers who kind of challenge his authority as a man in general and as a sportstalk host in particular. For weeks, he would occasionally include this riff in his handoffs with Fred R., and it was always Fred making some statement that indirectly was a comment on Petros' show etc...and Petros would come back with his 'do you think you're better than me?' ditty. And Fred played it straight. Well, several months ago Petros, in all his recent glory, was talking up his own show and his own TV work...and Fred kind of challenged Petros...and then broke into his own 'do you think you're better than me?'. Petros was flabbergasted...or, at least in the theater of radio, made it seem like he was flabbergasted...that straight ol'Fred could pull this off. It was terrific radio...and Fred enjoyed doing Petros...on several levels.

Perhaps you had to be there...

i am a HUGE petros fan. from the day i was streaming (like scream, i found him through Bruno) and heard this guy screaming on the mike for no apparent reason. i truly believe that if ESPNradio were to replace DP with the P, he would trounce rome. im dead serious. not being from socal, i do have a question, what in the hell is the "C-U-Dodd"? as in the city of the C-U-Dodd. is it spanish? am i not interpretting it right? ive racked my brain. petros pulls no punches, doesnt toe the line and is hilarious. Lance Romance is the funniest thing on radio.........

"Ciudad" is Spanish for "city," so "city of the ciudad" literally means "city of the city." He knows it's redundant, and several callers have pointed out the redundancy, but he just likes saying it. That's Petros for ya....

> Reaching for straws! The "P" will be on a total of 5-10 stations with his new show on SNR. Also he gets a ZERO show in LA! If he wasn't the latest "screamer" to hit the airwaves, he would land a job at ESPNradio or FSR and be on more than 100 real radio stations. You Petros fans are so lame! Bruno has brought a few real affilaites to SNR because he is talented and has a reputation for hosting a great show. Try to build Tony's affiliate base instead of your "Vote for P" campaign.
