Petticoat Junction Elevator

On Petticoat Junction that metal thing next to the stairs. Is that an Elevator? It does not have a floor. In an episode when Uncle Joe couldn't find his winning ticket for a TV he rips the room apart looking for it. The "elevator" was moved and you can clealy see no bottom.

In the opening episode Railroad tycoon Homer Bedloe (Charles Lane), who wanted to scrap the Cannonball Train (and would try many times throughout the series) asks Joe why the elevator is there when it clearly is'nt connected. Joe's reply: "To give the hotel class" "The only elevator between Hooterville and Pixley"<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by TimL on 06/16/05 04:48 PM.</FONT></P>
