Just read a great article in the city paper about that unknown island in the Delaware River between Philly and Camden called Pettys Island. They mentioned the last 200 years of history about the place, including tombs, wildlife, oil tanks, pirates and other things on the island....What they did not mention and I don't know how true this is but I was always told of a transmitter site there. It was 1460, licensed to Mt Holly, WJJZ or WWJZ and had a strict pattern away from Philly so you could not receive this signal anywhere southwest of the site. It was a three tower array, this was in the late 60's early 70's, dont know how true this is. It was reminicent of the old WSLT 1520 when they were oldies, circa 1975 and could not be received one mile north of the Golf course site.

Actually, it's Petty Island and it is in Pennsauken. I didn't know that it was unknown. I believe Citco owns the island.

Wrong island! Petty's Island is a part of Pennsauken Twp., Camden County. WJJZ 1460 had its facilities on Burlington Island, in the Delaware River just west of Burlington City in Burlington County, NJ. I recall reading somewhere that the engineer had to use a small boat with a motor to go out there to do maintenance!

Burlington Island was once the site of an amusement park, long ago.
