Just read a great article in the city paper about that unknown island in the Delaware River between Philly and Camden called Pettys Island. They mentioned the last 200 years of history about the place, including tombs, wildlife, oil tanks, pirates and other things on the island....What they did not mention and I don't know how true this is but I was always told of a transmitter site there. It was 1460, licensed to Mt Holly, WJJZ or WWJZ and had a strict pattern away from Philly so you could not receive this signal anywhere southwest of the site. It was a three tower array, this was in the late 60's early 70's, dont know how true this is. It was reminicent of the old WSLT 1520 when they were oldies, circa 1975 and could not be received one mile north of the Golf course site.

I was always told there was a transmitter on Pettys Island too!!!

I heard it was a FOUR tower array and it was broadcasting the distress call of a French
woman, trapped on the island, for over 16 years on a continuous loop. And then the woman
was shot by mercenaries while trying to get her daughter to safety. And now there's a guy on
the island pushing a button every 108 minutes that allows Preston and Steve to trick
Philly into thinking they have a good show.

I really like how you were able to combine "some article" with your neurosis.

I worked with a guy by the name of Ron Felder who nearly bled to death tin the early 70's while working for WJJZ. He told me he had to row a boat to the island and it was raining, he slipped and his arm went through a window. He needed over 50 stiches. I had a similar situation in 1974. We both later worked for Narco Avionics together we often compared scars on our arms.
