What do you get when you add B-Jam,Disco Reunion,95Xfest(900 paid!!),Frogfest together.
Less people than this years Krockathon!
Pettybone may be a big, loudmouth jackass but he really did kick everyones ass.
For those of you that care about money, tell your sales department to look at this Julys Miller report. Then you'll see how much money the Krockathon made!

You should know, Ed

Hmmmm. After checking your profile, and looking at your history of posts in Syracuse, Albany, and other markets, one wonders if P-I-M-P might not be the correct acronym for the head of a small local ownership group...

Mimi programs your best stations and you promoted Abbie to help with your anemic sales. The bitches got you whipped! Meanwhile Mr. Ed can't wait to call another dreaded sales meeting to find out why his lame 3k signals can't attract any national dollars!

Where's Keeler! What about Mason? Is Phil Stern gonna bail you out Ed!

Face it you need a viagra fix.

lucky ?

Maybe lucky it didnt blow up in his face all together !
No naming sponsor
No presenting sponsor
No Road to the K-rockathon map sponsor (usually a c-store or gas station)
No Line up Board sponsor

You wanna call that a success ???
Sure, the show went on. But you made no scratch. And now losing credibility with your core audience...those in local bands, the listeners that support them.

Go ahead Petibone, pat yourself on the back for that. If you call barely treading water a success, your replacement wont have to do a heck of alot to raise the bar !!!

Getting the sponsors is not the PD's deal. Pettybone had to sell tickets.
Did you sell tickets?
Pettybone had to promote the show and create excitement for an annual event that like stations across the country have ceased to continue.
Where was your excitement?
Every year we engage in this petty battle - sorry for the pun - but the true achievement here was motivating the masses to go to a show, to pay out the ticket price, to buy gas in our area, to pay thruway tolls, to purchase food and beer etc. It proves that with the right promotion, a concert can be a well attended event. Nevermind comparisons to years past, it was a different culture. In today's world what Scott, Ed and the rest of Galaxy produced cannot be looked upon as a flop. If the bills were paid and some money made then Scott went beyond his job to simply continue an important image event for K-Rock.
By that logic the B-Jam, Disco Reunion, Balloonfest, X-Fest etc. all may be considered successes if their bills were paid as well, and for those that attended an important image event. As for Scott, it would appear that for the task he had in front of him, he far exceeded the goal.
Everyone may continue to bash and jab fingers - it's all part of the game that I hate - but the weak arguments that try to take one of the more successful concerts not brought to the area by CCE, The Fair and/or Turning Stone and put it down are simply a waste of space.

-It is his job to promote an event that will sell ! They also didnt sell HALF the tickets they claimed they would.

- Sell tickets ? To what ?

-Petibone's problem is his big trap. He's pounding his chest, and strutting like a fata$$ peacock, calling the show a success w/o the sponsors $$$$.
You're correct in saying that events nationally are down. However, it doesnt cost any less to put on these shows...ergo...If you dont sell the sponsorships, and sell fewer tickets...YOU STILL LOSE MONEY !!! It's not rocket science, Bozo.

> Where was your excitement?
Excitement about what ? The recycled stuff K-rock brought in? Trapt...been here recently...Shinedown...been here recently...And how many of the bands did they BRAG had played at one or MORE previous K-rockathons??? Oh, and I bet by the end of the week Ra will no longer be in their playlist. Not knocking any of the bands, but in its day K-rockathon brought the NEW $hit !

-Beyond his job ? How ? And how on earth can bills get paid with fewer tickets sold, and no major sponsorships sold ? The promoter isnt charging any less...get real!

As for Scott, it would appear that for the task he
> had in front of him, he far exceeded the goal.

-Let me guess...you failed math !

I believe the capacity at Weedsport is about 10K...and they had 10K..that would be a sellout.

Pettybone's big trap appears to be your problem. He executed a successful event...he compelled listeners to attend..that's his job...any PD's job. Selling sponsorships to the event is clearly not a PD's responsibility.

Consider that selling fewer sponsorships at higher dollars makes everyone happy, including the PD who gets to promote cleanly without clutter. All PD's should be so lucky. I don't think any company would take such a high risk without knowing they were going to make money. They have been doing the KRockathon for years successfully and it is a machine that puts other events to shame.

Kudos to Pettybone for putting a twist on the event. For crying out loud, BJam has the had the same bands for years! And, Balloonfest had no big names. He gave the listeners what they wanted...they came. As the tenth year edition, all the hype about past years' Krockathons and bringing back favorite bands was playing to fans who have loved this show and look forward to it every year. They came. That's the bottom line.

In the beginning I paid 10 bucks to go to the Krockathon. I paid 30 this time around so I think perhaps you had were the one with the math tutor.
