Phantoms on WIP2

The Inquirer reports that WIP will stream Phantoms games via their website on a "WIP2" webstream, none over the air. The article says the Phantoms were not on radio before - sounds like a missed opportunity last season with no NHL games. Could WIP be doing this to prevent WPEN from having any rival play by play - even minor league hockey? How many fans will listen to a game on the net to make it worthwhile to produce the broadcast?

If WIP is running in HD and has its "multi-cast" features, than the Phantoms games will be airing on WIP-2.

Phantoms as an AHL team has never had a radio broadcast, but my AHL team which is affiliated with the Pittsburgh Penguins currently has the rights to their games on my FM oldies station. Sadly, the Penguins lost to the Phantoms in the second round of the AHL playoffs.

AHL Hartford Wolfpack comparison

Here in greater Hartford, the Wolfpack (AHL New York Rangers) air on 5,000 watt ESPN Radio 1410 (WPOP-AM Hartford). There's the occasional New York Yankees conflict. In those cases, the game will air on a delay once the Yankees are over. However, the games also air at the Wolfpack website. I'm not sure if the games air live there during a Yankees conflict or not.
