CUMULUS IS GROWING IN LOUISVILLE
They just moved in 93.7 into Sellersburg, oh I forgot they also own WAVG. However they just moved into a super sized studio compound on Hurstbourne. The building has 6 BROADCAST studios and nearly 6 PRODUCTION studios. Sales offices out the wazoo and more. Why would they need 12 studios for a rimshot AM/FM combo?

That makes me wonder if Cumulus wants the Salem Louisville cluster, also located on Hurstbourne: 93.9, 94.7, 105.9, 900, 970. If they also buy one from Clear Channel, that takes them to four on the FM side (Perhaps Cumulus makes 101.7 and 105.9 a simulcast?)

Everybody take a deep "Dr.Phil" breath.... Wow! I feel better.. We all have angles and takes, so let it be.. This is not Hannity & Colmes... It's all of us, giving our angles on markets and what's goin' on in Marconi-Teslaland...... ;) Maybe Way's new addition in the market knows something about Salem's plans..???? On WAKY... Not a Class "B" or "C" type, but they can get what they can get covering a large portion of the metro, though not all of it.. It can be very profitable, without being a top tier station.. A second tier station can be successful, knowing its primary zip codes and squeeze as much audience out of the 50 to 54 dbu reach of a commuting market... ;)

If 103.1 becomes a 50,000 watt station, will Cox keep WRKA on there? Or would they put WPTI on there to compete with WAMZ?

Oh man, could you imagine it?! AMZ is already down a couple of points. Get 50,000 watts to go up against AMZ with and Coyote will be shaking in his toupee! If Radio One had of programmed 104 properly when it was a classic country station, that would have sucked even more numbers away from AMZ.
WAMZ is vulnerable. Voice tracking & syndicated programming out the wazoo...PLEASE...WRKA...PLEASE take these bozos on with Live 24/7 Local Country.

Live 24/7 country? Don't think Cox does anything in Louisville that's LIVE.

Radio One's Eagle 104.3 was not a direct competitor with WAMZ and couldn't possibly take any huge numbers from WAMZ. The Eagle only covered a small niche of country with Classic Country. It is almost like comparing The Fox to QMF or SFR. Plus, Eagle's signal wasn't nearly superb to cover the entire metro area and compete with WAMZ. However, a 50,000 watts mainstream Country signal on 103.1 can have the potential of taking some numbers from WAMZ, especially, being in the hands of Cox who has programmed great radio success with WVEZ and SFR, not to mention WRKA.

If they were to move WRKA up the dial to 103.9 and move New Country down to 103.1 on that 50,000 watt blowtorch from near LaGrange, WAMZ will be shaking in their "boots"

Yeah WAMZ will be shaking because of a 50k jockless country format? "Here's another 4 songs with no talking in between on New Country" GIVE ME A BREAK!

I would hope if new country gets the 50k they would use jocks.

Trust me on this, COX isnt stupid. They have smashed Clear Channel pretty much when they want to. They arent afraid to spend money when needed and they know what Marketing means.

Cox is a good company and ran well.

IF Cox moves country to 103.1, New Country will become K103 - KENTUCKY'S BEST COUNTRY

Their brand manager for country programmed the once successful KZLA under Bonneville and other Country stations in Dallas, Houston, etc.

Cox's Dayton country outlet is a 50,000 watter that features jocks; so there is precedence for Cox to "man" a station.

My map shows it's 1.8 miles NE of the Snyder on I-71 which puts it about 11 miles closer to downtown than LaGrange. This signal has the ammo to challenge WAMZ if that's what they choose to do with it. It would seem a safe bet that they aren't spending a king's ransom to perpetuate the sub 3 share they now have.

I heard from the folks on South 4th that the new COL is LaGrange, but they can put the tower anywhere as long as it puts city grade over the COL. Example is WDHT moving to Urbana when the tower is clearly in Springfield.

I agree, Cox is spending MILLIONS (radioville this is a proven fact) for the upgrades to 103.1 across the region. Making deals with Pieratt and other broadcasters in the Bluegrass State. I doubt they will leave a format that is lucky if its pulling in a 3 share on that stick. However they will put on a format that can proven help take a chunk out of WAMZ.

If you look at billing and data, Cox makes a good penny in Louisville. Their BIA Financial reports put them in as the 2nd biggest biller in Louisville and climbing quickly on the folks at Clear Channel. The only thing keeping those stations afloat are WHAS and WAMZ. Cox makes money hand over fist on WVEZ and even WSFR gives them a good chunk of change. WRKA does well but to demographically dovetail the rest of the building, moving Country to 103.1 would make much more sense.

Anyhow, just my opinion and observation.

"K103" Kentucky's Best Country? no Louisville station would brand as "kentucky's" maybe kentuckiana but that's WAMZ's brand

Louisville is LOUISVILLE..

Do you make this stuf up as you go along?

The COL is actually Lyndon. The site selection was limited, at least to the north, from my understanding. Being involved with WXCH, which is being moved to 102.9 from 103.1 and being re-licensed to Hope, Indiana, I've looked at the spacing & found that if WRKA had been more than 2 miles farther north, the 102.9/Hope piece of the puzzle wouldn't have fit. I imagine that 103.5 WAKY limits them to the south and 103.3 at Georgetown,KY is probably a factor to the east & there's Lwesiport,KY on 102.7 that may have limited their westward potential (I want to say that station may have been on 102.9 in the past...perhaps they moved to 102.7 to facilitate this?). Hats off to whoever pulled off this amazing game of musical chairs. I just hope that Louisville Radio is better off as a result of this. If WAMZ is forced back into 24/7 Live/Locals shifts to defend their turf, then it will not have been in vain.

Yep..The Lewisport move to 102.7 was a part of the deal....Great ENG...
