Phase I Fall ratings posted today *DELETED*

Re: Phase I Fall ratings posted today

Not supposed to post Arbitron rating numbers or ranking placements. They're copyrighted. Doing so could possibly cause legal trouble for this site.

What if you quote the source?

You can NOT under any circumstances quote Arbitron's copyrighted data. Even if you quote the source. Radio-Info.com doesn't have a license agreement to cover us.

You may post the 12 plus positions (1, 2, 3.... etc) but no share data whatsoever.<P ID="signature">______________

You can say this station 'RANKS' higher than another station, stuff like that. right???? And ofcourse, dont mention Arbitron....

Re: Try again

OK - It's been reported that the following stations had reason to smile: WEEI, WMJX,WKLB. Stations not so happy: WTKK,WBCN. All others stuck in neutral.

You did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now thats the way to do it!!!

Copywriting data

Not to stir up trouble or anything, but I seem to recall, possibly from my media ethics course in college way back when, that you can't copyright data. Of course, that doesn't necessarily stop Arbitron (or anyone else) from doing it or trying to do it, anyway. And, of course, it doesn't stop Arbitron or any other corporate 800-pound gorilla from posting copyright notices or paying attorneys to send out legal cease-and-desist letters anyway. (And, of course, on that copyrighting data issue, to quote ZZ Top -- wayyy out of context, I'm sure, but never mind -- "I might be mistaken.") :)

I don't see what they lose if the 12+ numbers are freely available (copy/pasted to sites like this one). The sales droids still need pay to get the details and give them to clients.

Ratings clarification

Radio-Info.com was specifically instructed by Arbitron's lawyers NOT to allow actual ratings data (including 12 plus numbers freely available at other sites) to be posted here because we do NOT have a license to do so. You can't even cut and paste the numbers from another source which does have such a license.

While in a general sense, it is true that data can't be copyrighted, radio and television ratings data is one notable exception to that rule, since the numbers directly affect station revenue.

This issue came up over two years ago and occasionally gets brought up on the boards. Hope this clears it up.

Re: Ratings clarification

I can certainly understand the copyright issue. But here's a question: Is it OK to post a link to a site that does publish the ratings legitimately? Just wondering. Thanks.
