Phil Boyce

I've heard from friends who should know that work on Rewound 2009 has stopped pending clarification on who will be in charge.

Funny, I've heard from friends who REALLY should know - because they're the ones doing the work - that most of the material for Rewound 2009 is already in the can and ready to go. Whether it ever sees air or not is, of course, a different story...

Maybe, Phil Boyce left WABC because of the arbitron ratings for the latest quarter, which are up slightly but still dismal overall.

NYC Rank #18. WABC-AM News Talk Information - AVG WK Cume - July-1,204,000 / Aug-1,250,600 / Sept-1,497,900.

#9 WINS-AM 2,780,300 -- #10 WCBS-AM 2,543,100 -- #15 WFAN-AM 1,849,300. WABC-AM is positioned right between Spanish Contemporary and Latino Urban FM radio stations.

Do they speak jibberish, where Phil's going?

Perhaps much of the work has been done, but the final work that gets it to air is not happening until they know if it will air. Think about it...can a new guy really change anything with the regular schedule???

Well, certainly, Imus, Rush, Hannity and Levin aren't going anywhere, no matter who they hire to replace Mr. Boyce.

But there are any number of issues related to the day-to-day operation of the station that need to be handled by his replacement. And by "issues", I mean just the daily stuff that comes up running a successful talk radio station in the nation's largest radio market.

As popular as they are among us radio geek types, the Saturday oldies show and "Rewound" are roughly in 254th place on the "Things A New WABC PD Needs To Handle" list.

I hope they continue, as I think both are rather cool for a big city talk radio station to do in off-hours and on a holiday weekend. But these shows aren't on the radar for anyone who's looking to take over Mr. Boyce's now former role, and he'd tell you that himself, more than likely.

I see that Boyce has been fired/'left voluntarily' from WABC and has landed in a smaller venue in Seattle, Wa. Is he there to build a new personna, far away from the drones he has left behind in New York, or is he on a mission to corrupt freedom of speech in Seattle the way he attempted to do in New York?

I know of no more boring radio than WABC in NY. Nothing but right wing rants. This is a real reason for resurrecting the equal time amendment.

What Boyce did to Richard Bey and Ron Kuby would keep a normal person up at night. He is a one man horror show.
Our gain is Seattle's loss, it seems.

With all those egos in one building the new PD should have her hands full. WABC is a ticking time bomb waiting to
go KABOOM! ;D

Would a radio station looking for a younger demo give a damn about the kind of programing it did before most of those folks were even born??
