Phil Cowan... now what?

I turned on my radio today and heard that 20 year veteran Phil Cowan was shown the door by Clear Channel.

Now there are NO local talk shows in Sacto during the day since Tom Sullivan moved to NY, shows on other stations have been canceled, and now this lastest bonehead mistake by CC management. ::)
Sure, Cowan admits his ratings were mediocre... due to competition from Rush & Rome... but I think his show should have been moved to a different time slot before giving it the death penalty.

Clear Channel in Sacramento is imploding and is losing the strongest thing it had going for it.... it's LOCAL flavor. I find it hard to believe that the capital city of the 7th largest economy in the world does not have a local radio talk show airing during the day. Who is going to make fun of the idiots under the dome downtown or discuss the pros & cons of a new Kings arena? I would hardly consider Armstrong & Getty local anymore either... they have pretty much been hijacked by KNEW 910 and play to the Bay Area listener now more than ever before. :(

Now that KFBK/KSTE are pretty much running national syndicated fare.... why should I listen to them anymore? News & traffic you say.... whatever! Sorry, but I can't stand listening to R.E. 'Sandwich' stumble through another news story as he tries to interject his lame remarks while Kitty squirms uncomfortably, or listen to traffic reporters READ about accidents off the CHP website that have long since been cleaned up by the time they are reported. ::)

*********I would like to thank Clear Channel for now giving me the incentive to go out and buy a Satellite radio over the weekend.*********
Since there are no more local shows on KFBK/KSTE there is no point in listening to them anymore.
Why not just buy a sat radio with 100+ channels instead? ...many of them without commercials. :D

I will still be able to listen to Tom Sullivan on the sat radio.... but Clear Channel will no longer be able to sell my ears to their advertisers. ;D

Good Riddance Clear Channel. :p

The old "we have to answer to our share holders" rap about cutting costs and watching the bottom line doesn't even play anymore with CC going private. Greed is greed and it will always trump a good product.

If there were only a way for China to export lead based radio shows...

No surprise here at all.....greedy people, when give the license to print money, will print more money...and only when their returns drop off will they look towards quality.

I guess he waits by the phone for a call from Paul. Get the bullhorn out of the closet Phil. Brush up on your celebrity birthdays! This will be a sweet reunion.
