PHIL HENDRIE BACK IN L.A.

Looking fwd. to Mon. night, not much else on in that time slot if your mind wants to be stimulated.
Late night Talkradio in LA is indeed slim pickings. It was nice having Mr. KABC over those 10 years and Peter Tilden is OK but he doesn't even come on until 11:05p. Coast to Coast is intellectually vacuous and consumes not only KFI but also KOGO in SD and several other clear channel signals that are audible at night in the Southland. KRLA is a wasteland at 11p, and KTLK is running stale taped shows that aired live on the East Coast hours earlier. KLAA was a wasteland until now too, so Phil will be a welcome addition to that time slot. I'd love to see KRLA choose to go live and local in late nights.

In addition to everything above, I don't care much for John and Jeff. They can be rather corny at times, but those two.....they're just so.....nice. To everybody.

KLAA doesn't reach the San Fernando Valley very well at all at night. Arte better add an affiliate for Angel broadcasts next season.

Apparently 830 realized that the giant moron who hosted the Recovery show in that timeslot was not suited for such, not because he couldn't talk (well, that, too), but for, shall we say, other reasons. Of course, running out of money didn't help either.

Although he apparently has locked up some nice big and juicy affiliates, the show really seems to be stale out of the gate.

THe political commentary he does now -- a bit left of Michael Savage -- is moderately interesting, but not necessarily what I would consider to be "must hear" radio like his old show. I can understand Phil wanting to do something "different" than his former show, but it honestly just doesn't cut it.

???Did anyone hear this show last night (Mon. 9/10/07)???
Maybe I fell asleep, all I remember on AM830 was some sports program.....

The sports program was NFL Monday Night Football. Last night was the opening night so they had a doubleheader, the 2nd game started at 7:15 pm PDT from San Francisco so it probably didn't end until after 10:30 or so. The rest of the season, there'll be only one game starting at 5:30 pm, so it'll end around or before 9 pm.

Seems I can't pick up 830 AM in West Hollywood. KGO booms in on 810, and KXNT on 840 with Coast to Coast. On 820 I'm hearing a tiny AM giving local information, and a Spanish station is also coming in.

they air the spanish side of Angels Baseball for the remainder of the season. Next year, they will be the Angels flagship station, they also are contracted to air some Galaxy soccer games on the spanish side as well, but that's it. The remainder of the schedule is in english.

Well, so much for Phil Hendrie till the baseball season is over, all I hear on 830 AM is Mexicans talking.
I did find an interesting show on 790AM from 9:00pm till 11:00 pm in english.

I doubt the Spanish broadcasts of Clippers games (if there are any) will be on KLAA this coming NBA season. Methinks Arte is moving away from his ancestors' tongue.

It finally occurred to me why the show seems to be so "flat" to me. Although he announces phone numbers, all of the "callers" are Phil Hendrie...and not actual calls from unknowing listeners. Also, it seems as though he is doing the show via ISDN line in a spare bedroom or such. His studio does not seem to be deadened.

That would be the great one Mark Levin!

Phil still takes legit calls when he's commenting on stuff, but rarely, as he is very anal about screening calls. I would actually prefer it if he just didn't take any fake calls during the interviews if he's going to stick to that show format. Either that, or restore the old format.
