Phil Hendrie leaving terrestrial broadcasting

I guess from what I heard the other night, Phil Hendrie is ending his three hour national radio show on March 15th and going to exclusively to the 'net.

Not only that, he is going to do the show that he is doing for two hours starting at 9 a.m. with the third hour being a repeat of the first.

As talented as Phil Hendrie is, I think that his "time" is over. The show has gotten a bit stale, and moving to net distribution and mornings means that he has grown tired of doing the show.

"Grown stale"? You mean how the whole show was this long bit where he talks to himself as different characters that all sound like him? "Stale" you say?

How this lasted beyond the first hour of the first show is quite a testament to how dense many listeners really are.

Amen! It will be even more amazing if they follow him to his net "exclusive," but, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

No, but tons of people have gone broke overestimating the ability to monetize podcasts.

In general, whether they even consciously realize it or not, when people hear "podcast", it's correlated with; amateur, unpolished and casual.

it may surprise people to know that many potential listeners do want a degree of professionalism, maybe as subconscious validation in not only content, but presentation.

Probably because it almost always is.

I'm sure Phil's podcast will sound great. But he's not going to make enough money off it to make a living. Even the biggest podcasters in the world have day jobs.

Phil's show went downhill fast after he fired his best writers. The guy is an angry jerk, he lost so many fans by treating them like garbage. He caused all his problems, he could have been big, but, he burned all his bridges by being such a nasty SOB to everyone.
