Phil Hendrie on KDWN from 11p-2a

Found this out on the Los Angeles board. I wonder why KDWN isn't promoting Phil he had a pretty good following when he was on 1140.

I was wondering the same thing? maybe they are afraid he won't take off....of course nothing has taken off at the new kdawn....except savage....and I bet he goes to kxnt the way he went to kfyi in phx...

I work for Beasley Broadcasting (owners of KDWN) and have a little background as to why Phil's show is airing from 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM. The short answer is contractual commitments. An 11:00 PM start time was the earliest we could accommodate (and it came with a loss in revenue because we had to move paid programming that was airing from 10:00 PM to Midnight). KDWN has contractual commitments with other syndicated hosts that prevented us from airing Phil's show earlier. Here's a very positive result of the 11:00 PM start; KDWN can be heard in 11 of the Western United States once the sun sets.

I also work there and unfortunately, that is not such good news, the station does not market itself in those other western states ... the equates to a BIG BIG zero for the advertisers....sorry

isn't hendrie with TRN now? maybe trn wants him on the air- or they'll move savage?

There is a list of affiliates and link to listen to the show online at

If you are a fan of the old show he has been slowly getting closer to the old format, and there have been some hilarious segments.

I'm not sure where you are going with the comment about not marketing to the western states. When you have a 50kw non-directional signal and its one of the only radio stations you can pick up in the middle of the night, there's no need to market to listeners. They find you by default. Who said anything about advertisers anyway? This is about Phil Hendry listeners.

I am the Program Director of KDWN and I just wanted to clarify the decision re: Phil Hendrie's time slot. Without getting too-inside-baseball, the time and structure of Phil's show on KDWN is exactly what TRN asked for. I respect and appreciate the people at his syndication company, TRN, a lot. They also syndicate Jerry Doyle, Michael Savage and Roy Masters. (I realize that most of you who are part of this message board know this -- as you are radio mavens - - but for the few who might not.) For the record, I would love to carry Phil's show live, but it's not possible for the time being. I worked with Phil in Miami years ago and I think he's the most unique talent in all of radio. On another note - - While I do read these posts and enjoy reading the contributions, I try not to weigh-in on every little thing. I only do so when I think there's a chance for serious misinformation or misunderstanding. I also don't contribute without identifying myself - - I think doing so would be disingenuous and cowardly. If any of you ever has a question you'd like answered directly, please feel free to e mail me at [email protected]
