PHIL HENDRIE RETURNS TO LA RADIO (allaccess.com)

According to www.allaccess.com, KTLK is making some MAJOR moves, including adding PHIL HENDRIE to late evenings.

The schedule, which may go live this Monday, has Phil Live from 9-1pm, with the first hour exclusive to KTLK only. Racheal Maddow' stint from 3-5 goes permanent, with Mike Malloy back on 1150 live from 7-9. Nothing on what will fill the spot between 5 and 7, except, according to allaccess, it won't be Ed Schutz, who is off the schedule.

No changes have been immediatly made on the K-TALK website (www.ktlkam1150.com), nor have there been any celebratory messages on eithert www.philhendrieshow.com or www.mikemalloy.com

...after hearing Hendrie's recent offerings on KTAR-FM here in PHX, I wonder what possible value he is now to a progressive talk station...

I was the biggest Phil Hendrie fan... until Sept 12, 2001. Anger over took him (understandably) and I'm not looking for that late at night.

What a non-fit for an otherwise great line-up. I heard they just dropped him from the progressive talker in Miami. Hendrie is a Limbaugh wanna-be these days. Yuck!

His re-incarnation doesn't have as many put-on interviews as most people associate with Hendrie. Bobbie Dooley & Ted Bell make appearances now and then, though. The show really doesn't add much to KT'R as their competitor airs Coast to Coast. Given the late hours of his show, KTLK doesn't have much to lose and his syndicator gets el Lay.

WTF now ed and steph were the best things about that station. Ya know cheap channel how do you ever expect to get a following with this station when you change the freakin lineup every other day or two???I love ed thanks alot  well hopefully my steph will stay put ???

I’ve been picking up Phil’s show in the hollywood area ever-so-slightly on San Diego’s KFMB. The show is a snoozefest.

Mike Malloy can be entertaining in small doses but Bush has only 11 months left; not sure what Mike is going to do when he’s gone.

Why do I feel that KTLK is going to bust out this station so it will be sold off. Hendrie’s current persona is the antithesis of what I thought KTLK was trying to accomplish.

The one person who was trying out for that Mister K job was Johnny Wendell. After trying out Morgan Fairchild of all people, I thought for sure Johnny had it in the bag. One caller called in and said: Johnny, tell them you want this job!

...Malloy will probably do what he did *before* GWB started squatting at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. What he was doing got WLS some damned good numbers in Chicago at night, especially against WBBM, WMAQ and WGN in that last book. It's too bad Mike Elder wanted a station of all Limbaugh clones...

...Wendell's a good guy. Met him when he subbed for Malloy a few weeks back and did the shows from here at KPHX. Wore less of a shirt than I did and laughed at a couple of my jokes. Can't ask for much more than that, can ya? ;-) ...

I like Hendrie, both his monologues and voice bits. He recently has been giving advice to Republicans:
they can't win unless they go moderate on social issues. He strongly supports war on terror, etc

radio-info.com front page says Maddow will be 3-6, Malloy 6-9

Wait; how is that possible? Rachel Maddow's show is only 2 hours long (6 PM-8 PM Eastern/3 PM-5 PM Pacific). Is KTLK going to repeat an hour from 5 PM-6 PM?

I was thinking, that 6 to 9 pm slot is no prize. How is Malloy going to build any audience when KTLK incessantly uses that spot for the KINGS hockey game or whatever seasonal sporting event has a lock for that station time. I mean, I completely forgot Schultz was on the station --I would tune in a few time during that period and it was sports. Out of sight out of mind. Ironically, Hendrie used to get bumped for sports when he was on KTLK’s sister station KLAC before, um, he retired from radio to pursue an acting career in Hollywood.

Nobody has mentioned what is going to follow Hendrie since they axed Alan Colmes.

KTLK is making too many lineup changes simultaneously. They're changing 10 consecutive hours of programming. They're not going to get good results with third tier, ultra-left, liberal talkers like Mike Malloy and Rachel Maddow.

Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann, and Randi Rhodes consistently pull the best ratings. I do not understand why a station would cancel any of them.

I feel sorry for Stu Krane and Randy Michaels - true professionals in syndication - they can't get Ed into NYC, and now they've lost him in L.A., and it's not their fault.

Maybe this is - again - another opportunity for Saul and P.J. at KGIL 1260 and 540 to do something? 8)

Or, John and Mark at "Cash 1700"? 8)

Not enough of a signal, as proven over and over. 540 does not serve the LA market, anyway... it is a lower powered station in Tijuana, to the far south of the SD market.

That is a Tijuana station, with no signal daytime beyond Solana Beach or Oceanside, and no night signal at all to speak of. Even the 50 kw Tijuana stations today get no LA county numbers.

I dont even think hockey is still a professional sport in the US. ::)

David,

I am talking returning Ed Schultz to BOTH LOS ANGELES AND SAN DIEGO.

1260 has limitations at night when they power down, but during the day has a decent pattern with 20,000 watts, different from KTLK 1150, although neither signal serves the entire L.A. market.

1700 serves the entire San Diego market, as far as I know with 10,000 watts both day and night.
