PHIL HENDRIE RETURNS TO LA RADIO (allaccess.com)

It's 9:35 and I don't know what's going on. I hear commercials being voiced by Ed and Thom Hartmann, and some local host interviewing a guest.

Did the ALL ACCESS article give a time for the changes? I don't recall.

The 1150 web site hasn't changed.

As for Raccoon Radio saying that Malloy will do an exclusive hour for KTLK, and another poster stating that Rachel expands to 3 hours, that's WAY too many hours of FAR, FAR left programming (7 consecutive hours total). It won't do as well compared to what they have had previously in those time slots.

And, Maddow's show is too dense, too much information, delivered too quickly.

For whatever reason, sounds like KTLK is trying to appeal to a very narrow demographic of ultraliberals, who, I might ad, on weekends will be out sunbathing, mountain biking, or skiing, and not listening to their 18 hours of weekends informercials. HA HA HA HA HA 8)

KTLK is doing some special election coverage. The new schedule begins Wednesday Feb 6. That local host you heard was Johnny Wendell. ;D :'( :-\ ::) ;D

I think I read that Malloy would also do an hour exclusive to LA

...that's an interesting idea, since Mike is Nova M's property, and the production facilities used for Mike's show in Phoenix are used throughout the 5:00 PM Pacific hour for Jeff Farias' KPHX show...

No more. He's off as of yesterday.

Looks like he's on the IOD schedule now, but only on weekends. Too bad. Miami-FTL and WIOD is where people really started to notice his comedy show before taking it further to LA. It would be nice to have him live overnights, but I've heard that Clear Channel PDs of heritage talkers are sent shocks if they attempt to replace Coast to Coast.

Mike Malloy is not doing a separate live hour for LA; that is Phil Hendrie from 9-10 (and Maddow, as mentioned).

I don't know if the post about "Mr." Bertolucci was meant to be some form of uninformed sarcastic remark? Last I checked, (although it could have changed with the recent bloodbaths) Don Martin was "programming" 1150. (The quotes were also meant to denote a sarcastic remark)

I wish Clear Channel would stream in a format other than Windows Audio. I live in a canyon on the south end of Sherman Oaks, and AM signals are terrible in this ditch.

Let’s review: the new KTLK programming changes started on Wednesday--Mike Malloy did a nice job, reminds me of a performance artist with his voice. Hendrie, who has bashed Air America since he’s been on this TRN network, actually did more comedy bits and when he went into his political ramblings, bashed Fred Thompson and made fun of Ron Paul zealots. Thursday, Mike was preempted for LA KINGS Hockey, lol. Friday, Mike did not show up for work and Sam Seder was the fill in guy.

Can’t wrap my brain around exactly what is wrong with Hendrie’s show. It’s like a guy who use to do this puppet show, and for years people called him a genius. Now, he just seems like he pulls out the puppets to appease the old fans, and his heart isn’t really into it. (Not sure if his old fans haven’t already moved on. Over the summer, there was an internet-message-board backlash to the right-wing tone of the new radio show; Hendrie pulled his My Space page around the same time--one could guess, he couldn’t take the negativity.)

Regarding news commentary: he does this build up like he’s going to make some profound statement, but the result alway seem diffused, like he is never sure what his own point was.

I always thought the “kick” of the show was the caller reaction to his crazy characters. But once you take out the callers you sort of have a puppet master just entertaining himself in front of a mirror. Sort of sad, sort of lonely.

Well, after a week of listening since his KTLK debut I must say Hendrie has gotten much more playful and less serious in tone; he actually seems to be having a good time again, which is a delight. I don’t know if something has changed in his personal life but he seems happy again. He seems to be mixing it up with funny news sound bites along with commentary, and to top it off he will throw in sometimes three of his voice characters at the same time. It’s great to have him back in good form. Welcome back Phil! :D
