Phil Hendrie returns to radio locally on Mantalk

Phil Hendrie, from good sources within ManTalk 640, will be back on the air overnights starting tonight from 1am-4am.

From the press releases, he's not planning to do the fake callers to his show like he used to, but instead he will be talking political.

Either way, this guy was great on IOD and QAM. I'm glad to see him back in radio again and i hope it turns out well.

Actually, I think he was on WIOD, then went to KFI, LA, where he was eventually syndicated by Premiere. He was then heard on WINZ (the old Supertalk), then WIOD until he quit radio.

Actually it was from WIOD to 640 KFI, Los Angeles, then syndicated BACK to WIOD via CC/Premiere.

Next round: TRN and Mantalk.

Good luck, Phil.

Never could see his appeal. I wince when listeners are made to look like fools, even when they are. I'd rather laugh with someone rather than laugh at them.

I wonder if he will go back to doing voices and fooling the fools if this new approach doesn't work out?

Apparrently, your sources at Man Talk are not so good. At least, not very reliable.

Ok, I talked to my source at ManTalk and they're still negotiating with TRN to carry the show, but it's taking longer than expected, so hopefully they will still air it.

What I'd like to know is how they'd be able to air it when WINZ is airing it? Or do they claim all content for West Palm Beach? Someone explain syndication to me.

You're not missing anything. It's awful. None of the voices or his schtick that made him great. He rambles on about his political musings. Today he defended Ann Coulter, and said that we should stay in Iraq and get the oil. And that we should get all the oil from Mexico and then go after Venezuela. We're entitled to it.

And on, ad nauseum. Terrible radio.

940's signal dies after dark, can't pick it up in West Palm after sunset

I understand that and under most circumstances, there shouldn't be an issue between a Miami and WP station having the same show. My point was that it'd be funny to hear them suddenly claim to be a WP station when they are intensely promoting themselves as FT Lauderdale stations. Not that man outside the radio biz knows they exist.

He said before that there would be no voices.

James-Crystal actually DOES own a Ft. Lauderdale station. The old WFTL, WFLL 1400.

Actually, James Crystal now only owns 640 and 850, they sold all of their other radio statiopns in the past year.

Mantalk 640's city of license is in fact Boca Raton and WFTL's city of license is West Palm Beach, so ithey're technically in Palm Beach County.

By the way, Laura Ingraham and Michael Savage were on WKAT and WFTL simultaneously. But, technically, they are in seperate markets. James Crystal has this thing about saying they want to push that they're in Fort Lauderdale, even though Arbitron recognizes them as Market #49 (West Palm Bch-Boca)stations just on their respective city of licenses.

According to Radio-Locator, WMEN's city of license is Royal Palm Beach. Boca is the change for their construction permit. Also, WKIS' city of license is Boca Raton, but the transmitter is in Hallandale so the COL isn't really relevant anymore. WMEN on the other hand currently has its sticks north of US-98/US-441 in Palm Beach County and WFTL has its sticks out in the middle of glades off US-27 a few miles south of South Bay.

Alan Colmes is also on both WINZ and WFTL.

Incorrect. James Crystal also owns WLVJ and WFLL locally. I think WLVJ is licensed to Boynton Beach (also Palm Beach County) and WFLL is Fort Lauderdale (the old WFTL)

I think they own a station in New Mexico and Dallas, too. (I remember them trading a station in Orlando for Dallas, but not sure if they sold the Dallas one.)

They are a WPB station since Boca is a PB County, although they should still be in the TSA. I would think since WINZ is only 10kW at night (out of Hialeah, right?) and doesn't cover the area, maybe it would fly. TRN, which clears Ingraham and Savage on Salem-owned KTIE here in LA's "Inland Empire" just cleared their entire lineup on KMET in an outlying area of the market. Same market; TRN just wants clears and doesn't care like Premiere or ABC does. That being said, Hendrie live would be a lot better for Mantalk than a 13-hour old shrieking lesbian conservative... perfect for MANtalk!
