The Scooter passed away this morning at the age of 89. I have such great memories of listening to him and Bill White during the Yankee broadcasts- and I am a Mets' fan.

Let's share our great memories of listening to Phil.

God's got a great shortstop now...

I grew up listening to the Scooter and Bill White call the Yankee games for both radio and tv. The BEST part of any broadcast was how far off the topic of baseball they would get sometimes. When the Yankees weren't winning anything in the early 70's, they made watching and listening a lot of fun. In the later years, I also remember Phil sneaking out early to beat the traffic across the GWB so he could get home to his wife. "Holy Cow", we'll miss you Scooter!

Funny you should bring up Scooter and Bill White working together. I remember once they were on, and Rizzuto always called Bill White "White" never Bill. After a few years of this, White asked Scooter "Why don't you ever call me by my first name?" Rizzuto answered "I don't know what your first name is!!!" They were great together and the Scooter will be missed.

One of my favorite Scooter memories was watching a game in the early 90's...a cold night , I believe in Chicago....Seaver is in the booth with him and Scooter is complaining about how cold it is....He sees Seaver drinking something and asks what it is....Seaver tells him it's a nice hot cup of coffee and he should get one to warm himself up......Scooters reply...."I don't drink coffee anymore Seaver"....Seaver..."Why not?"....Scooter's reply "It makes my bunnions grow".......Seaver must have been rolling on the floor of that broadcast booth for the next 5 minutes....He was laughing so hard that I found myself bent over in laughter myself....Scooter was so special.....I had the chance to meet him one time at an autograph signing back in the mid 80's....He was very gracious, down to earth and genuine........Rest in peace Scooter...and thank you for all the smiles you gave us all.
