Very sad news. Listened everyday on the way to school my whole life. they were important and paved the way for future talent in Tulsa. Missed but never forgotten.
Oh my God. I just learned this on Newsok.com via the Tulsa World. I'm in shock. Clear Channel lets Phil and Brent go after 27 years and a month later Phil is dead. I'm stunned. Just don't know what to say. Rest In Peace, Phil. Godspeed.
As a guy who worked for Clear Channel when Billy and P&B were there, I can tell you that this likely was more of a continued attempt to acquire P&B's listeners than a sign of any respect. There was no love lost between Billy and those guys. I doubt anything ever happened after he went to Dallas to change that.
Sounded sincere, but sounds like you may know more about their real-life friendship. By listening, I would have guessed that they were at least friends. Certainly, Billy has respect for what they accomplished. I don't think anyone on the board has a story like P&B. 27 years on the same show and same station!
I believe billy respects phil and brent and that he of course wants a long term career that they had. He knows they are Tulsa legends and that he somewhat has their shoes to fill as BMMS alone wont do it.
