PHIL WILLIAMS LEAVES THE RIVER

I read in Walker Johnson's weekly column that Phil Williams will not be returning to The River. Gina will be moved to the afternoons and as for Dave Henley, I'm not sure what plans are for him. Phil will be going over to WNOX to do an afternoon talk show. The article didn't say what The River's plans are for a new morning show, but without Phil, that station will be dead in the mornings.

But atleast the drive home from work will be fun and interesting. Phil Williams by himself - wow! I don't know what the format of his talk show will be, but if Citadel is smart, they'll just turn him loose and let him talk about whatever he wants to talk about. That's when he is at his best.

David Henley will be doing news for The Joe Show in the Morning on 98.7 The River. Tom Morgan takes over the afternoon shift.

David Henley has been with Phil for so long, going all the way back to the Phil & Billy days, seperating these two is like having a hamburger without the buns, or The Price Is Right without Bob Barker, it's just crazy to seperate the two because like you said in a previous post, they work great together. I really hate to see him leave the River. Just when that station gets it's music back on track, sounding decent, and holds a relatively steady rating, they loose Phil. I do have to say, thought, that Joe is good and might be able to hold onto Phil's listeners since he won't be competing with Joe. Why did Phil leave anyway, was he just unhappy at The River. Anyway, I'm not complaining. Atleast we still have Phil on the radio, and given the chance to have his own talkshow - I can't blame him at all. And it will be good for all of us because we'll probably get to hear a side of him we've never seen before.

What it came down to was he just didn't want to get up and do the show every morning. He wanted to take his daughter to school.

Citadel saw this as an opportunity to fill their vacant slot, while shifting contracts around to the point where the 98.7 frequency will be in the black financially for the first time since Citadel purchased it.

I can really see Phil's point there. I guess after getting up early for almost 30 years, it would be nice to get to take it easy for a while.
