Phila Mag article - DeBella.

Anyone read it? If you were around and listening to the radio in Philly in the mid 80's into the 90's this is a must read. Very compelling.

I was a loyal Morning Zoo listener...until...well, "you know who" came on the scene. And I remember that first day "he who shall not be named" broadcasted in Phily. My initial reaction was that syndication would never work in Philly, nor would it have any chance in beating DeBella...and I certainly wasn't going to leave MMR as a listener.

Some how, I too was brainwashed into HATING DeBella.

Amazing.

So, for those that love radio, and especially behind the scenes radio drama, this is a must read.

Haven't seen it yet, but I didn't need to be "brainwashed" against DeBella. I never liked the morning Zoo from the start. It took a classy progressive rock station and made it into a goofy blue collar beer party play the hit cuts rocker. It also killed off the intelligent, droll humor John Harvey in the Morning show on WIOQ. I listened to Joey Reynolds on WFIL and Randall & Cooke on 106 before Howard arrived. I had listened to Howard since he first started on WNBC and was glad to see the Zoo end, although I never returned to WMMR as a listener. I did put on DeBella recently and found him much more entertaining now as a "real" performer out of the Zoo format.
