I think it's really hurting them that they don't have the Phillies. Does it hurt them more than it helps WPHT? Not in AQH share 6+ (WPHT's ratings during baseball season are about 1.5 points higher than their ratings before baseball season) but maybe it does anyway.

There's a reason radio stations run formats and that everything on the station is consistent with the format. Move sports talk to 1210, leave the Phillies there, and move political talk to 610.

I think the NFL lockout is their real problem. The Eagles are Topic #1 there and nothing is happening with them.

Not a real fascinating book otherwise...B takes a hit but not enough to matter; RFF, RNB, XTU and Power gain a little; MGK and PPZ drop share points but have higher cumes.

I know it's down I-95, but WCBS-AM actually experienced a dip of one full ratings point from April to June - incidentally, the Yankees' season started in April. Maybe New York's starting to get tired of Sterling, I don't know.

Exactly. And baseball talk is not the number 1 driver over at WIP, hence interrupting IP's format with a game that a majority of their audience isn't necessarily interested in doesn't make much sense. Much as I'm not enamored with 1210 interrupting its talk with sports, this arrangement makes good sense for CBS.

I think that's old thinking, from back when the Phillies were terrible. They're a perennial contender now and sports fans want to talk about them, and, when they're not at home, want to listen to the games.

WIP runs the Flyers and the 76ers. Talk about interrupting talk for games nobody cares about. They don't seem to have a problem doing it in the winter time, even though the interruption to non-stop Eagles talk is even more pertinent.

The Phillies on WIP will drive listening during other dayparts. The Phillies on WPHT don't do that nearly as much.

When I say "the Phillies on WIP," I don't necessarily mean on 610. I mean on 1210 WIP .

To my fellow radiophiles,

First, all of the stations mentioned are CBS-owned stations. 2nd, CAN'T imagine any of these three AM stations changing frequencys. 3rd, since none of them advertise hardly except on CBS 3 and WPSG 57, you wont see any ad. budget going toward the newspapers. Thus, why would Andy Bloom, Marc Rayfield, etc. allow any of these stations to be moved.

By the way, its STUPID to have 610 broadcast Phils games on Sunday. Does Bloom and Rayfield think people need to listen to the broadcast on 2 stations. Is their a REAL reason. Also, how bout each on 7 second delay and 610 being 'ahead' of 1210 on the Phils play by play.

Perhaps the ratings at WIP are down because the station is outdated and the listeners have grown tired of the hosts- many of who are annoying and unlikeable.

I'm Hoping the pathetic ratings bring change of personnel.

WIP is a 95% football talk station when they are actually talking sports, the posters who are saying that are right on. most of the hosts on WIP are borderline clueless when it comes to baseball. with no eagles off-season (that may change shortly), there's literally been nothing for the hosts to use as their typical crutch. and while the phillies may have grown in the market over the past few years, they just do not move the needle on philly sports talk radio like the eagles do. heck even the flyers' trades last month got more buzz on 'IP than the phils have this year, as ridiculous as that sounds. so the ratings being down is pretty logical. has nothing to do with the phillies IMO.

Perhaps the fact that they're not talking Phillies is part of the reason the ratings are down? Maybe the fan base moved and the station didn't move with it.

As for the clueless hosts, I'd have to agree. During the 2009 World Series, Anthony Gargano was on TV debating who the Phillies should use as the DH when the games got back to Philadelphia. Um, hello, cuz? Citizens Bank Park is an NL park.

The jolt in the WPHT ratings, especially in cume, between March and April tells me everything I need to know about how popular the Phillies are now. If the sports station isn't talking Phillies, that's a problem.

(This might be my bias talking. I'm a baseball fan far over all other sports, though not Phillies because I grew up in New York. But I don't think it's my bias talking.)
