Hey, they finally fixed the WIP-FM thing.

Big gains for WMMR, WMGK and WXTU.

WISX up a tick from its big gain last month, up to a 3.9.

Ben-FM up too.

PHT down to a 1.8.

I'm shocked that the ratings went back to where it was earlier in the year and late last year. PHT's in trouble. I know the folks at the station don't want to believe that, but that's the truth.

stunned that WWIQ is still Philly's number 1 talk station. It even went up to 2.8

PHT got what they wanted. They hooked themselves to their "star", Smerconish. He was going to take them places. It was for his convenience that they ultimately dumped their syndicated talkers. And now he will be their salvation.

Oh wait...he's left the building hasn't he?

WRNB only dropped .1 since last book, so is it possible that they will remain jock-free until the ratings start to fall again?

If the ratings remain stable or increase, do they ever bring back the jocks?

has anyone thought of the breakdowns we dont see?
such as: using PHT as an example, does a certain sex listen more at a certain time? we'll never know...

What's stunning about IQ being the top talk station? They have the names.
you are right about that. 1210 had those big names in talk radio and yet they let them go.

If IQ gets a better morning show, WPHT might be gone. Lionel is getting killed by Stigall, the only day part that WPHT is beating WWIQ by a large margin. Not sure why Merlin isn't trying to get a Philly guy, based in Philly for their only local show.

that's shocking that 1210 is losing in the ratings, the rest of the day, expect morning drive. 1210 should be winning in all day parts, with a local lineup. no wondering WPHT is struggling.

Where are you getting ratings info for each show? Thanks.

I was in discussion with Mike Missanelli(97.5) about upgrading talent and his stations poor ratings, getting clobbered by WIP 3.8 to 1.8.. He called me a moron and said all they are worried about is the male 25-54 category. I think he's in denial. Overall market is more important than a sub category imo.

Where can I get 97.5 ratings for each show. I intend to verbally eviscerate missanelli further but I need to make sure my facts are in order first.

^ Well, the first fact that you need to get in order is that nobody in the business cares about the overall numbers. 6+ numbers drive ZERO agency sales, so overall numbers are irrelevant except for driving idle discussion on these boards.

You're wrong and he's right. Like it or not, these days radio stations target specific audiences. Why? Money. If they can show that they've got a large male 25-54 audience, there's lots of advertising money targeting that demo. The beauty pagent ratings of 6+ or 12+ are totally meaningless except for bragging rights.

The fact is that Missanelli consistently beats or is very competitive with WIP in that daypart and demo.

You can't, unless you're a subscribing member of Arbitron.

I know the absolute rating number is they key, and beating your competitor's number is secondary. But 97.5 couldn't possibly be beating WIP in M25-54 given what the 6+ numbers are, could it?

Sorry, no. Revenue numbers - sales - are key.

Unfortunately, BIA/Kelsey numbers are more difficult - and expensive - to come by than actual Arbitron numbers.

Well, yeah. And actually that's only half th key. Costs are the other half.

Unless you work there, why do you care? If a listener called me up and started talking about ratings and dayparts, I'd hang up on him. Especially since I work in an unrated market.
